What is the smallest, most thin, and light weight digital camera to buy in Korea? I'll sacrifice picture quality and features for the above three attributes. Please post model numbers and links if you have them! Thanks!

If you're wanting a camera with a small profile, a camera phone would be the best. Either you don't have a camera phone, or you're not truly willing to sacrifice picture quality and features. If you don't have a camera phone, buying one would probably be cheaper or just as cheap as a small, crappy camera. Now, if you don't have a phone at all then that's a different matter.

Spoken like a true Apple fan!!

Wink

Really though. If it can easily be slipped into a pants or shirt pocket, how much smaller than that need it be?

I can only second Swigs and suggest you search around for 'ultra-compact' camera reviews.

Check out the Sony T series.

IIRC they were the slimmest one's around.

Casio Exilims are probably what you are looking for.

Casio Ex-s12

Dimensions (W x H x D): 3.7 x 2.2 x 0.6 in / 94.0 x 55.9 x 15.2 mm
Weight (empty): 3.9 oz / 111 g

I used to have a Sony U40

THAT camera was tiny. It took decent photos.

i suggest take a look at the Canon IXUS 100 IS. just the size of a credit card, and very slim.

I've had 3 different models of them over the last several years. I bought it specifically because I do a lot of salsa dancing and, back in Texas, I had a mobile windshield repair business and was out and about town all day. I'm a compulsive picture and video taker. I take pictures of anything that catches my eye.

But I especially wanted something light and small enough to take with me to salsa clubs where the light often is somewhat low. Back around 2001 I read a very favorable review in one of the camera magazines about the Casio line so...that's what got me interested.

You can see the pictures and videos I get with it by going to:

www.flickr.com/artwilliams/photos and also www.dropshots.com/seoulsalsero

The last one is the one that has my videos on it. Flickr won't take videos as long as I usually shoot.

The casio site is good for info on all their models but be advised that the stores in Yongsan don't carry all of them. I've got a EX-Z850 right now and I like it fine. Also be aware that many camers don't have speakers. Meaning that if you take a video you won't be able to check the sound that you got. A few of the Casios don't have sound but mine, and most of the others, do.

Another thing I like about my model, which is actually one of the older ones, is that it's not super lightweight. I like something with a little 'heft' to it so I don't accidently throw it across the room. I really don't like those cameras that are too small and too light.

The Casios have a recharging docking station so that's a little odd in recharging them. But.....it's worth it. They use SD memory cards too.

I find that they keep their charge pretty well althogh it's a good idea to get a couple of extra batteries.

Also, don't carry it in your pocket because it's kinda easy to hit that 'open lens' button. If you do that when the camera is restricted in your pocket, it grinds the gears (or something) inside the opening mechanism and can create problems and a repair trip. Best thing to do is get one of those pouches that slips over your belt. That's what I use and it's become part of me.

I bought my last two in Yongsan and think I got a good price....around $200 I paid for mine now (I think). Lots of the shops there sell them. Mine was an older model and I think that's why I got a low price on it....lower than I probably would have paid in the US.

No doubt about it....go with the Casio. You'll be very happy.

Best regards,
Art

Over here, no I don't know. I vaguely remember somebody saying there was a "Korean" repair facility. Back in the US I had mine repaird in the US facility once. Up in New Jersey somewhere.

What I'd do if I wanted to know that..........just email the US office and ask them. Or go to the corporate site and send them an email.

scroll down to the bottom category

http://www.steves-digicams.com/best-cameras.html

I like cannons, I have had four over the past 5 years and I have never had a bad one. I currently have the sx200 (12x zoom in a compact) but it is not an ultra compact.

I suggest checking out several reviews, then head into yongsan and check them out, how do they feel, do you like the menu? Then walk away and buy it on gmarket
