--
South Korean police, in one of their more heavyweight cases, are investigating whether a zoo elephant threw a stone at a woman visitor.
The woman surnamed Kim told police she was visiting the zoo at the Children?s Grand Park in southeast Seoul on Monday when she noticed an elephant picking up a stone with its trunk.
After she turned away from 35-year-old Taesani, she was hit on the back of her head by a large stone, several newspapers reported.
She reported the incident to police in Gwangjin district who began an investigation. They found that the scene of the alleged assault was out of range of security cameras.
"Though Ms Kim believes the elephant threw a stone at her, it?s hard to conclude that the elephant attacked her since there are neither witnesses nor evidence," Dong-A Ilbo newspaper quoted a police source as saying.

Ah! This is the second time I've seen this story on Dave's...
The first time it only lasted 5 minutes.
If I was an elephant in a zoo I'd throw rocks at everybody. Not just Koreans. I would never be a racist elephant.

OFFICIAL: Come on! Who threw that? Who threw that stone? Come on.
CROWD: The elephant did!
ELEPHANT: Sorry. I thought we'd started.
OFFICIAL: Go to the back. Now, where were we?
AJUMMA: Look. I don't think it ought to be blasphemy, just saying 'Jehovah'.
CROWD: Oooh! She said it again! Oooh!...
OFFICIAL: You're only making it worse for yourself!
AJUMMA: Making it worse? How could it be worse? Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah!

Perhaps, the elephant got sick and tired of listening to the ajumma chewing her gum. |

I've been to Korean zoos, so in this case I support the elephant. |

In 2004? They were marching them down the street as some kind of promo for Everland or Lotte World or something and one of them got pissy and ran off and trashed a lot of shops?
That was funny because in the same month a wild boar ran into Seoul from Gyeonggido or something and.. trashed a lot of shops. Before getting shot to death.
Damn wild animals. I wish they'd send them all the way of the Korean tigers so our concrete fortresses wouldn't be bothered by the likes of these. |

I was in Nepal a year or so ago at Chitwan park. I was just standing there admiring an elephant. I gave him his space. He must not of liked my staring though since he hurled the sticks he had in his trunk right at my head and hit me. Those elephants have good aim. Quick release too. |

It happened in 2005.
One woman was injured Wednesday when a small herd of elephants broke out of a South Korean amusement park and thundered through Seoul.
Their keeper's carelessness was blamed for the escape, which happened when one of the elephants was startled during a routine parade outside their enclosure at a city park. The pachyderms were waiting in a tent next to the front gate of the Childrens Grand Park around 3:00 p.m. When their chains were loosened just a few moments before the performance was to begin, one enterprising animal made a dash for freedom and the others followed. In classic partisan tactics, the six dispersed when they reached the main road.
The six elephants scattered after leaving the park.
One charged into an alley near an elementary school, whipping its trunk against a 52-year-old woman before becoming trapped in a garden.
The woman went to hospital with unknown injuries.
Three more elephants that took refuge in another garden ended up visiting a nearby restaurant. The owner hid in a closet.
At one point, one of the elephants was detained at a police station in Seoul.
All six were eventually rounded up and returned to the park.*
Apparently, two of them had escaped from a resort in Inchon a couple of years earlier and loitered around the downtown are for an hour and a half.
* caged from a couple of internet news stories |

The elephants need to plan their next escape more carefully. |

Sounds like the beginning of a Disney movie about a baseball team that needs a new pitcher. |

And when someone is about to do something really stupid there needs to be a cute dog who covers his eyes with his paws.

When I first read the thread title, I thought it said
"ajumma assults elephant at the zoo"
Perhaps because it's not beyond the realm of possibility |
