Workers infected with the H1N1 flu virus will benefit from the industrial accident compensation insurance, officials said yesterday.
The Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service released guidelines to help employed people when they have contracted the disease unavoidably while working or during business trips abroad.
According to the guidelines, healthcare workers and officials at welfare facilities can get compensation as flu infections are on the job risks and the transmission route is medically identified.
In addition to those engaging in health and medical services, other workers can file for accident compensation when they are infected with the disease while working or the flu infection is closely connected with their jobs.
Beneficiaries of the compensation are expected to include: quarantine staff at airports and harbors; workers who have recently visited flu-affected countries during business trip; those who sit near a flu patient onboard an airplane; and employees who are in close contact with flu infected colleagues.
In order to be insured, applicants should prove that the routes of their virus transmission and activities are identical. People also have to provide evidence that they have not been involved in other daily situations that led to flu infection.... |
I can see it now... "What!? You went to Itaewon? No help for you! You should have avoided that place!" |

| I wonder what kind of evidence is sufficient; CCTV footage of the person's daily activities? |

| Just out of curiosity, the Korean media/government/etc is aware that H1N1 is not AIDS, right? |
