Katherine Heigl and her husband, musician Josh Kelley, have released the first pictures of their new baby, Naleigh.
Photos of the 10-month-old special-needs child appeared on Heigl's fundraising site.
See who else became a parent this year
Heigl announced last week that she would be adopting Nancy Leigh, Naleigh for short, from South Korea on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
"She was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign," the Grey's Anatomy star said. "[Adoption has] been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the '70s and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do." |

i brought this up in an advanced conversation group yesterday, and their consensus was that a korean being adopted internationally is a slight against the country these days. they argued that people will think that they are no better than the chinese or, gasp, southeast asians, with high profile adoptions like this. i tried to steer the conversation toward the current outlook on adoption in korea, but they weren't having it. korea's reputation was their real concern. conversation is conversation, so i bit my tongue. interesting to note, they were all women. |

For their own good, those South Korean people need to be told they are no better than SouthEast Asians. |

Anyone know what kind of support is provided for families raising a special-needs child in Korea? How does it compare with support provided/offered by the US Government?
Just curious, if the child would have a better life in the US than in Korea. I am thinking more in terms of your average couple and not some celebrity couple who are more financially secure. |

Whatever the Koreans say about SE Asia is ridiculous. I am Singaporean and I think Singapore is extremely beautiful with some resemblance of good manners. Oh well each to his own. |

they aren't any better or worse
the prejudice toward adoptees and especially those with special needs is staggering
adopting mentally and physically handicapped children ought to be encouraged and praised by any advanced, modern culture
Korean nationalistic pride has this issue *beep* backwards |
