Has anyone else received this survey? We got it in our mailbox on Friday. It contains a multitude of probing questions about personal background, why you came here, your satisfaction with life, whether or not you've acquired citizenship and why not, your jobs you work, your pay, how much you call/e-mail/write home, what your most difficult problems are here, if you have family members staying here more than 3 months, your internet use, lots of questions about child care, Korean language use, etc..

It says its all very confidential, but they want your name and phone number at the end. Rolling Eyes

It was the first time we'd heard of it. We were planning to fill it out before the due date, but ended up having some lady knock on our door this Sunday afternoon.

My wife is sick in bed today, and I'm not doing so hot myself. When the lady came, my wife talked to her from the other room and asked her to come back another time (no appointment had been scheduled). The lady was very persistent, and said she "had to get it done today."

In a nutshell, her persistence set my wife off.

This lady claimed to have tried to reach us several times, but in truth, we just got the document on Friday, and never been left a message by phone or in our box. My wife explained that this lady was likely a part-timer hired by the Gu office, and that she won't get money unless she is able to get X number of finished surveys.

Anyone else bothered by these people? This lady was a bit over the top, and my wife intends to give the Gu office heck about it. My wife wondered how they expect to get responses to their survey if they treat people like this.

It says, results will be released in January.

Screw'em. If they're going to be rude about it, why bother helping them by filling it out and handing back to them.

My wife would have been peeved at them, too.

They just want to learn more about the 'Chinese' criminals and what have you. Same crap flies in Japan. The survey will probably end up being used to feed some anti foreigner propaganda.

Take it to Amnesty International, man!

We did the same survey. I suspect it's because long-term Korean-White marriages represent such a tiny fraction of all the international marriages that we're really not a big blip on the radar.

The entire survey was definitely targeted at the rural imported wives segment of the expat scene...

They're the ones who really need help and assistance, so I can see why the gov't would focus on them.

Other greats:

28. How satisfied are you with our relationship with your spouse? Parents-in-law?

29. Would you recommend a family member to marry a Korean citizen?

My wife explained what really made her angry. Apparently, my wife told the lady, "We just got it and will fill it out and give it to you next week, or complete the form on the website." The lady's response was, "If you don't give it to me today, then just forget about it -- you don't have to do it if you don't want to."

Basically, the survey woman was unhappy that she wouldn't be getting our survey (or her kickback for collecting it) so she was telling us just not to bother. My wife, who appreciates that the gov't has spent a lot of money for surveys like this, is disgusted with the survey woman's attitude.

After completing the full survey, it's obviously geared toward asian immigrants, and is trying to get an idea of how the are coping with society. As someone else mentioned, English teachers and the like aren't even on the radar in terms of the questions.

well koreans marry chinese and japanese the most(guys and girls)

last time i checked something like less than 1000 korean females married americans, 650 korean males married american women while there was more than 5000+ japanese + korean couples(korean men, japanese women alone) the top was the chiese. Korean-Chinese are one of the largest minority ethnic group in china so that says it.

Yes,

A woman from Ulsan Buk Gu office actually came to our house on a Saturday afternoon a month or so go and requested that I filled in this form while she watched.

My wife was a bit angry when I ticked the satisfied box rather than the very satisfied box when asked about how satisfied I was with my spouse's family.

We did get a tube of face cream or something as a reward for filling out these forms though. Woo Hoo!
