It sounds like an interesting opportunity to hear about something that has been growing back home since I have been here and living in other places overseas. It's free? And it has free samples of products? It sounds delicious! All I have to do is email or phone the guy called 'Frederic' listed above? Oh, and, get up a little early. I can do those things. See you there! |
Yes, that's right Ethan, it's free. You don't even have to RSVP, but to do so is extra-helpful to Frederic and the other good people from the Europe Korea Federation who are organising the event.
You can check out about their organisation here, by backtracking from their burb here on what they are doing for fair trade this year:

It's at Euljiro Station #4, at that big fancy new Kukdo Hotel, in their big fancy meeting hall called the Tulip Hall, which is on the third floor.
There will be free samples of products, and speakers from a range of countries, including producers (farmers or workers from factories or artisans) from Vietnam and Laos, a senior rep. from Germany for tthe European based international fair trade labeling and certifying organisation FLO, or the Fair Trade International Organisation, and a speaker from the Fairtrade Label Japan branch.
It would be really interesting to compare notes between the state and processes of development of fair trade between Japan and Korea. Given the differences both in size of population and also length of access to disposable income and relative sizes of middle classes, there will be differences. Whatever she does talk about it's sure to be interesting, however much we already know about fair trade in any given land.
Please let us know here, if you are going to go, or if you did go and can report back. (I'm jealous of anyone who's living up there and can get there and home or to work again so easily!)

Well, for those that went, what did you think? I thought the speakers were interesting and I'm glad I went. Nice fruit spread, BTW (I had more than my fair share of pineapple ) |

I wasn't able to go in the end.
What did you learn? Who was the most interesting speaker?
What did the speakers from Vietnam and Laos have to say?
Did the speaker from Japan paint a good picture of contrast with the current situation in Korea?
How many people were there?
Did anyone talk about the effect of the current economic downturn on the amazing growth of fair trade over the last decade or so?
Did you meet that nice guy Mr Park from the Ulim Fairtrade store in Anguk? |
