2009

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration supports extending three key provisions of the Patriot Act that are due to expire at the end of the year, the U.S. Justice Department told Congress in a letter made public Tuesday.

Lawmakers and civil rights groups had been pressing the Democratic administration to say whether it wants to preserve the post-Sept. 11 law's authority to access business records, as well as monitor so-called "lone wolf" terrorists and conduct roving wiretaps.

FLASHBACK

We therefore are at a good point to stop and consider not what U.S. President Barack Obama will do in the realm of foreign policy, but what he has done and is doing. As we have mentioned before, the single most remarkable thing about Obamas foreign policy is how consistent it is with the policies of former President George W. Bush. This is not surprising. Presidents operate in the world of constraints; their options are limited. Still, it is worth pausing to note how little Obama has deviated from the Bush foreign policy.

I guess this cements the idea that there is no right or left. There's just one party that differs on a few things and the American people choose between them.

Remember, over a year before the election, when I posted the thread "Will a Republocrat save us?"

Yes, Obushama sold us "HOPE AND CHANGE": Bail out the banks with trillions to be paid by future generations, and let's "HOPE" we get to keep some of the "CHANGE."

I don't, because I wasn't here, but I completely agree.

My conscience is clear though; I voted for Bob Barr.

I guarantee you that Cheney would not have scrapped the Eastern European missile shield.

Its true though that being in the Executive Branch changes your perspective. Suddenly, you want more tools to effectively do your job, and worry less about pesky civil liberties (after all, you're in the Executive, and you're not going to abuse those tools, are you?).

Interesting how many on the left would prefer to trash B. Obama to partly rehabilitating W. Bush...

________

Kuros: either that or, upon being briefed on the nature of the threat in all its dimensions, the president has merely concurred with his predecessor.

Have you seen this story out of Denver?

In fairness, I have already conceded that may be a distinguishing point between the two administrations.
