Does anyone know an effective way to find company jobs in Korea. I really want to get out of teaching while I'm young. Find a company, where I can start off doing a little grunt work and then work my way up. Every day I check a few sites including the seoul city hall one and worknplay. But after 8 months only a couple have come up. Has anyone managed to get out and how so? At the moment I am also trying hard to learn Korean because I figure that will be the biggest incentive for a Korean company to hire me.

I know this topic has been mentioned before. But the answers have never led to anything. So..umm yeah that is why I am asking.

cheers

Awesome plan as koreans love to promote westerners. Go for it you might make coffee boy by the age of 40. They might even take you out for dinner once.

This is my dream as well. I don't want to knock the good teachers out there but many Korean's seem to have the attitude "you white, you teach English".

I was out for a drink with a PhD once who has never taught here, but a Korean was telling him how they need people like him to teach English.
It was intended as a compliment.

Partly due to history and partly due to the xenophobia that exists here they really don't think they need the generic skills that foreigners provide (other than English). If your an expert in IT or nanotechnology then its a different story but if your an experienced and qualified manager they are not interested.

This is not to say that it is impossible to change but it isn't easy. It's the same rules as at home, network, network, network.

Unless you went to one of the top universities in the US (I would like to be able to say world) I would look at SME companies. Dont' be surprised to find teaching and editing English in your remit as well.

The other problem is that English teaching spoils us as far as salary and conditions here. Expect a grunt job to offer one million won per month with no housing.

Keep learning Korean and good luck.
