I was in Anyang a week back and saw tons of people posing for pictures and covering one eye with their hand. Does this mean anything in Korea? I saw like 15 different people doing this. Anyone know about this?

Ha!

(guffaw)

now that the OP mentions this, I recently took a pic of one my girl students during a field trip and I noticed she did this too for some inexplicable reason.

I have to see this for myself, but I'm gonna guess that it's probably just one of the many things people here do to make themselves looks "cute" in pictures.

Check out http://www.ssahn.com/ , there's like 1000 pictures of people covering. Also, I googled anyang and 2 of the pictures are coverers.

VERY odd.. Confused

Just like the one with two fists under the eyes, which some Korean women seem to like doing.

I think that is so simulate crying.

The covering one eye..

just asked my korean friend, they have no idea. Nothing too mainstream.

I found a korean article on it:
http://www.dal.kr/blog/002026.html
some professor named ahn sang-soo decided to start taking the photos of people doing that whenever he met them. Might be some kind of art project.

My first reaction was that it's stupid, but the more I looked at the pictures, the funnier it became. Not as cool as the guy who danced around the world, but, still, kind of cool.

I guess I'm far enough in the boondocks that this hasn't caught on here yet.
