| Nice city, clean. Super super super far away from Seoul, even though it says it is '30 mins way'. Few foreigners. |

| Is there stuff to do or would I be bored out of my mind? I just need a few goood restaurants and bars to be content. If I was in Seoul i would probably blow all my money real fast. Is going to Suwon any fun? |

Don't listen to this guy. Dongtan is close to Seoul. It's only 30 minutes to Gangnam (part of Seoul) on bus 1550-2 from Lotte Castle in Dongtan.
Dongtan is a new city. There are many pubs, restaurants etc. It is kinda like a family area would be the best way to describe it.
Most foreigners are in nearby Byeongjeom. |

Dongtan is awesome. I like to ride my motorcycle there and just gaze at it.
It's one of Asia's new "City 2.0" projects and it seems to be nearing completion. Very clean, very pretty and very state of the art. I might try to live there for my next contract. |

I posted this in the other Dongtan thread:

I've been living here for about 18 months (I'm not a teacher).
The Good
* Its a new city, so its pretty clean, new, good amenities.
* Pretty much everything you need is here, E-Mart, pubs, bars, shops, restaurants of all korean varieties. although if you are desperate for western food you might struggle. I'm pretty sure there is a subway here too.
* Central park is ace, big soccer pitch, rock climbing wall, tennis, fountain, skateboarding and roller skating park and some nice tracks to walk through smallish forest.
The bad
* No subway line, but enough buses to get around to seoul, suwon or bundang.
* Lots and lots of young families with young kids...maybe its a good point for some but in my apartment complex the noise level from screaming kids is insane.
* Lots of construction still going on here, metapolis (4 giant 70 storey towers) is nearly finished and once that is one i imagine the traffic levels will go up.
I would agree its probably one of the nicer places in korea you could end up.
There is also a facebook group called the "Dongtan Clan" for foreigners. |
