I know that there are threads which discuss this in some detail, but I wanted to list my questions in order to address the concerns of most new arrivals in Seoul.

I've searched for where to find cheap produce and groceries in Seoul and I've been reading that open-air markets are the place to go. However, if someone could offer their suggestions regarding food shopping in Seoul I think that would be a service to the entire forum for whenever someone wants to know which stores/chains sell affordable produce and meat.

Here is a list of products that are usually pretty high on someone's grocery list. If someone could list specific chains, open-air markets, neighborhoods in Seoul (even streets), and even Mom/Pop stores they've just grown to love, that would be great.

(And recommendations near the 2 subway line would be awesome; preferably west of Seoul National Uni. and before Sinchon.)

Here's the list:

1. Fruit/Vegetables:

2. Meat (including fish):

3. Western foods (cereal, candy, dips, anything Western):

4. Baked goods, grains, bread:

5. Dairy products and/or specialties i.e. non-fat yogurt, cream cheese, lactose-free products:

6. Alcohol inc'l Western spirits:

I realize that there will probably be some overlap in locations for these categories, but I just wanted to put a varied list out there that covered most of the shopping categories.

Again, anything near line 2 after SNU and before Sinchon would be great. Thanks in advance!

I think there are way too many "back alley" type places to just list them here. If you live in a residential area, its highly likely that you'll just end up going to one of the places around where you live.

There's no way you will find all the things you're looking for in one store. Bread is sold at one store, meat at another, western foods -I don't even know where.. never seen a small store sell western food, fruit/veggies from stands on the street, dairy - spirits. yet again at more stores.

For what you're looking for, just go to Costco or E-Mart.

For no. 3-5 Mullae or Guro digital complex Homeplus or Lotte Mart. 1-2 check out your local neighbourhood marts, butchers or outdoor sellers for fruits and vegetables.

Here's the list:

1. Fruit/Vegetables: Outdoor market, just walk around esp in an old area, half the time I just get it at the supermarket

2. Meat (including fish): supermarkets or markets

3. Western foods (cereal, candy, dips, anything Western): Homeplus, costco, gmarket

4. Baked goods, grains, bread: bakery (if you're lucky)

5. Dairy products and/or specialties i.e. non-fat yogurt, cream cheese, lactose-free products: Lactose free milk can be got at homeplus as can cream cheese, never seen fat free yoghurt

6. Alcohol inc'l Western spirits: everywhere and I mean everywhere. Specialized western alcohol can be got from namdaemun

I realize that there will probably be some overlap in locations for these categories, but I just wanted to put a varied list out there that covered most of the shopping categories.
