Other than things like that - and there were many - the leftists will have nodded their heads in agreement several times. Well, of course they did! The first thing you do when you're humanitarian, peace-loving lefty is support mass-murdering, woman-stoning, gay-executing theocrats (eh, Big_Bird?) |

I couldn't help but think of many on here as a watched his speech. When he mentioned things like

Good company fellows, you know who you are. |

Is this the same reputedly come-to-his-senses Khadafi that the press was touting just a couple of years ago?
NEWSFLASH: Moammar is a sack of shi-t and always has been.
Personal anecdote: My family was stationed at Wheelus AFB just east of Tripoli when Khadafi came to power. He was a lieutenant in the Libyan Air Force, which consisted of two squadrons of old T-38 trainers donated to King Idris, the former occupant of the so-named "Purple Palace" on the harbor near the old walled city. My father met him twice and he was thought of even then as a nutty rabble rouser but dangerous because he had grandiose visions of the future. Although it is true that Libya went from the poorest country in the region to self-sufficiency under him, it came at a terrible price.
The American base, given up in 1970, was converted into a long-term detention camp for Israeli soldiers captured in the Yom Kippur War. Only problem was that few were captured and none had the dubious pleasure of making their way to this flea-bag hostel. Now it's a Libyan military base.
My junior high school class was on a field trip to the Purple Palace the day the bloodless coup took place. The real bloodshed came later. Khadafi made residence in Mussolini's former residence adjacent to the former American air base and pushed all the Italian leather merchants out of the city. He then instituted his version of Sharia law and proceeded to acquire a harem of women. For as we know traditional Muslim men feel entitled to such decadence.
But at least those neighborhoods kept this ba-stard out and good riddance. This is the problem with the UN--having to put up with speeches by windbags. And might I add that he is looking especially and unforgivably but-t ugly in the photos.
Alas, he has his secret police, and nepotism reigns supreme among his leaders. He will never amount to anything more than a fart in the sahara winds as well it should be. |
