No, I was already in Korea, so they didn't give me any more money to pay for transportation.

I was told that I would not be provided another roundtrip airfare for my second contract. Is this commom. I guess I see the logic. If someone is already in the country, there is no need to pay for the airfare.

It's in my contract that I will get another round trip ticket. Pretty sure they'd give me money instead if I asked for it, but maybe less than the ticket. I'll know in another 5-6 months, I guess.

If you don't get the flight money, demand something else to compensate. If you don't get it the second contrac, that means your total compensation package is less the second time. Is that right? It seems to me that compensation should go up after proving your ability and all that.

When you renew for a second year, you should get the cash value of a round trip ticket subject to the same 6 month and 1 year terms as in the first contract. Since you're already in Korea, you may not want the actual ticket home. You should get your ticket home in cash for finishing the first year as well. You should also get your severance for the first year paid as you begin the second year, and severance for the second year at the end of the second contract. There is no legal requirement to pay severance in annual installments as you go, but it would seem a wise precaution. You should get at least 100,000 won increase since you are already here, there is no recruiter fee, and you have been proven good enough to renew for your job. All of these things should be in your renewal contract. It is up to you to negotiate and make sure you get what you want and deserve.

I had a ticket home as part of my first year contract. I bought a round trip, so they are reimbursing me for half.

I was a little bitter about the matter, but I've been at this academy a year and they still aren't turning a profit. In addition I make more than any other teacher I've ever met, get no stress and teach 3- 5 classes everyday. I realized I should just shut my mouth and count my lucky stars.

You must be kidding! Way to show them what you're worth! If they want you to renew they are not going to take a risk on you walking over a thousand dollars or so. Nice one, you've just ensured that no-one else at your job will ever get a ticket either! Hell, if it was good enough to pay you the first time as an unknown, and now you have proven yourself, why on earth wouldn't they pay for your ticket the 2nd time around? At least tell us you got more money or less hours or both...? Shocked Holy frick I can't believe you would accept that Laughing
