| Anyone know something about whether we teachers should be paid over that week? Any experiences/advice? I do feel so much sympathy for my hogwan director, she's really great and has been looking out for us, I'm just wondering about the usual situation. Swine flu is a hazard of owning a hogwan, and the teachers shouldn't be out of pay for a week because of it... should we? |

| Maybe you could talk to your director about telephone teaching for the week to save your salary? |

The director closed the school for the sheer fun of it, basically. There is no government mandate to close a school if someone at that school has (a) traveled overseas the week prior, or (b) if someone actually does test positive for the H1N1 virus.
As you are not taking vacation days nor sick days, the director is required by law to pay your salary. If she stiffs you on that, then hie ye to the Labor Board. |

We were warned that our hagwon could close for a week if a case sprang up. We'd still get paid.....
because we'd work Saturdays for five weeks to make up for it... christ. |

| My school closed for a month and unpaid, but I got permission to work at another school. |

As soon as your contract is up with your worthless main school, be sure to file a grievance at the Labor Board for unpaid wages. |

Wow. Mandatory overtimes. Last I checked, overtime is voluntary. |

The reason my hagwon is being closed is because the parents complained. They said that they refuse to send their kids for a week, and demanded their money back from that week. My director caved to the parents, as she does in all things (this is her only vice), so we are closed for the week. She says that as there is no tuition coming it, we will not be payed for the week.
I love my job working there (other than this we really are treated fairly well), and I'm wondering if there is any way of dealing with this other than going to the labor board. |

| Nope, labor board is pretty much your only recourse. |

Eh, she's stating that it wouldn't be overtime because we'd be doing our regular week's course load spread out over those 5 Saturdays. All bollocks.
Anyway, doubt it will matter. The flu's taken hold anyway. Once they get past the usual media fear-mongering and absurdities, things will calm down. |

Doesn't matter what she's calling it. Your contract, presumably, has you available during the week. It's her choice to close the school down. The public schools are staying open and that includes public schools that have students who've contracted the "new flu."
