Hi,
I was wondering if there are any Canadian Liberal Party supporters on here? If you are and you'd like to have a chance for real in put into the party send me a PM. I am the head of the newly founded Liberals Abroad Korea Chapter.
I have worked on the Hill and been involved in politics for about a decade. I will be leaving Korea in the new year, so by signing up and participating you can potentially take over after I leave.
Send me an email if interested.
Cheers. |

The liberals, the NDP, and the Bloq all have one thing in common: they are not, I repeat, not, the party that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time.
Give me five bees for a quarter. |

I was home for a bit at the beginning of September and nobody liked the liberals. Everybody was pissed that they might force another election. |

Rick Salutin at the Globe & Mail yesterday called Ignatieff a "Narcissist"....but who isn't in politics? He may be correct, but it would seem to me that certain personalities are always attracted to that kind of work.

I can tell this thread will be a HUGE boost to party membership.
I should say that I am not a die-hard partisan. I left a high level job 5 years ago, and I left the party. I disagree with many of the decisions that are made in politics, but I understand why they are often made, though I will not use the word 'necessary'.
But right now my partisanship is at an all time high. I have left my youthful leftist days behind, and am sort of a libertarian Liberal. The NDP can't govern and the Conservative record of only the last couple of months shows that they can't govern either.
Between the failing to account for 105 billion dollar in deficit, and that there would even be a deficit, they have demonstrated a staggering ineptitude on the economics front.
Their ethical standards are dubious, and they claimed they were the 'ethical' party. Between the behaviour of their MPs in the HoC, partisan advertizing with public money, federal stimulus money going to only ridings they hold along with so many other incidents, they simply can't be considered to be an ethical party. Throw in the broken promises on the Senate and election dates, and they don't have a leg to stand on.
I may not agree with many conservative stances on issues, but I can accept that a person might feel that way; feel they are a conservative. But there is a difference between being a conservative and supporting a Conservative Party that has demonstrated it cannot govern effectively and that doesn't deserve to govern. I left my party when I felt they had lost their way and done things that I deemed to be wrong. And so I cannot respect people who claim they are conservative and continue to support the CPC, because to do so either means they have no ethics or they are blind to what's going on, and I don't think I want my country controlled by either group.
As for the move to force an election, that was something I didn't support. I was not alone in not supporting it. But I'm privy to the decision making process and I can see how they came to decide to make that move, I simply think they came to the wrong conclusion. |

A slight change of request...
If you're Canadian, can you either post of PM me why you would or wouldn't vote/support the Liberal Party?
I am looking for honest feed back, so if you're angry feel free to vent at me. Same goes if you're just fed up or elated with the party.
Really just looking for input. |

If I sign up can I get some of that non-stop Liberal Party gravy, or at least a discount on certain select golf courses in La Belle Province? |

we haven't been in power for 4 years... Just about everyone from that era is gone. What's it like living in 2002? I have a few tips for you from the present
1. No Canadian team wins the cup, so don't bet on them on proline, 2. There are no WMDs in Iraq, 3. Ross and Rachel do end up together in the end.
Seriously, I am not trying to pick a fight, I am asking people to participate in their country's democracy. What's your problem? |

You haven't been in power for 4 years, and I am living in 2002? Do the math again, Einstein! |

you are citing scandals that broke in 2002. I could even have said you're living in the 90s based on some of the things you've mentioned.
The comment that we haven't been in powers for 4 years was in relation to the fact that you have asked for 'favours' from the liberals. We haven't been in a position to do that in 4 years.
Again, I am trying to do something productive, I'm not sure what you're doing. I haven't said anything about the conservatives, the NDP or anyone else. I haven't exulted the liberal party in anyway. I have simply asked if there are any members on this board. You are not a member. That is clear. Thank you for letting me know. |

I'm not a huge fan of the Conservatives, but the Liberal party in it's current incarnation is uninspiring, and people are just plain tired of wasteful elections every year or two. Form a serious coalition with the Bloc and the NDP- maybe take up Jack Harris's fight to scrap the interest on student loans, and the Liberals might get somewhere. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm curious if you would feel differently in 6-8 months? Would that also be too soon for an election? The next month will be volatile, and if we can get past that I would say we're looking at something for the spring.
Gonna be an interesting few months, I think. |

I agree. The Liberals could do better than a minority gov't with this method, although I would be uneasy about having to appease the Bloc all the time, but it probably wouldn't be that bad. We're constantly paying off Quebec anyways.
A while ago I was a Liberal Party member, and went to Young Liberals meetings. I voted for Ignatieff during the convention that Dion eventually won. However, I eventually got disillusioned with politics and didn't bother renewing my membership. It's gotten to the point where I don't vote anymore, and I'm a Poli-sci Major. I think the Liberals come closest to representing me on the federal scene, but really they're not that inspiring these days, and our political/electoral system currently doesn't really make me wanna vote anymore. |

Does it really matter who you vote for ? Haha Canada the land of the sleep walkers. You can do anything to us and we just follow like sheep. Voting is a sheeple act. Boring. |
