My husband and I are going to just hang out in or around Seoul for the holiday, despite all of the urging that my CT gave me that it's a good time to travel abroad.
My question is-what stays open? Should I stock up on everything and just cook at home? Will restaurants be open? I lived in Wonju during previous Chuseoks and all the small mom and pop style restaurants closed. Do the chain restaurants stay open?
Also, we were thinking of going to Everland-will it be open? Jam packed with long lines? What's the best way to get there (I've only ever past it on 1 by bus coming into Seoul from Wonju).
I've been assured that movie theaters will be open. I'm also looking forward to some "quiet time" in Seoul. |

Chain restaurants will be open. On Chuseok day, most things will be closed. I'm not sure about Everland though.
Seoul is fairly quiet during Chuseok, so it's a good time to relax and look around. |

What about areas like Myeong-dong? Will most of the stores be open? What days would they most likely be closed? |

i'm not going to make any guarantees, but i will say that i'm always surprised by the amount of shops open during chuseok. seems to be more every year too. |

Everland is open. I went last year for Chuseok and it was fun. It gets busy in the afternoon/evening though. |

Thanks Slap. My husband and I have decided we'll go to Everland on Saturday. Sounds like we should head over a little early. Thanks all for responses. |

At least today: Everland was dead. The entire time we were there (noon-9:00pm) the wait was between 0-10 minutes per ride. The only exceptions were the new wooden roller coaster (35 minute wait - it was timed, uninteresting story), and the safari (around a 20 minute wait).
They are also themed for Halloween now, thought the level of decoration/etc. is quite low. |
