Aha! Just as I thought! There is no great Korean author!
I swear, Koreans have got to be the most unimaginative lot of miscreants I've ever had the misfortune of encountering.
My reasoning is simple yet effective: a group of people whose hobbies are almost always sleeping and watching TV tells me one thing, and that thing is "you are boring beyond belief".
It's gotten so bad that my hobbies are now drinking water, washing my hair and throwing away used tissues. Tell this to Koreans and they'll nod their heads solemnly and knowingly, for without a doubt it will be included on their list of hobbies too.
I know that a lot of people I meet don't like me because of my vibrant, colourful and exciting personality, so be it. But when the day comes that I announce sleep to be one of my 'hobbies', just look for the stash of tranquilizers under my mattress. Trust me, there's enough to do the job. Just do it right is all I ask. |

Funny post BB.
I remeber seeing an art exhibit of K-artists in a consulate somewhere. I think strangely enough it was Kathmandu. Anywhoo I was impressed 'cause I thought this place had no creativity or independant thought also at that point. This stuff was really good though.
I do NOW also list sleep as one of my hobbies.... |

How would you know whether there are any great Korean authors or not?
I wonder if your post was inspired by this article in yesterday's JoongAng Ilbo: Korean Books Get Shelved Overseas |

Define great.
I don't think Jackson Pollock is so great. But many people have heard of him. In fact, he's downright famous.
But he isn't so great.
In fact, he sucks.

I love it when people trash talk on the internet about kicking someone's ass. Would that be in Mortal Kombat 2 or what? |

I agree that most Koreans lack imagination especially in their daily lives. I can't say that I ever read a Korean book unless one counts Korean Folktales (which pale compared to others). Not many Korean books are translated into other languages which makes it hard for any Korean author to be well known universally. Great Authors get published in at least a dozen languages (Tolkien, and yes even Rowland to name a few). While not everyone will agree on who should or shouldn't be a great author, I don't believe that there has been a Korean author that has really made the world stand up and take notice. |

Yeah... I've never seen any Korean on the Billboard Top Singles Charts. It's obvious Koreans can't sing. |

Poetry is the premier genre within Korean literary expression, and Korean poets are renowned for their simplicity of form and outstanding use of metaphor. Cartoons and graphic novels further explore the intrinsically poetic nature of the Korean language. Korean poetry rocks! From what I understand, the novel is a relatively recent concept for Koreans. |
