|
|
Almost time for The Big Dave's Traditional Saturday Night Pick 'em! Who wants in? I'm definitely game. But who's gonna run it? I guess I would if nobody else wants to...running a couple of other pools already so it isn't really a great burden...but if anybody else wants to, that'd be even better. Van Islander? Hanson? Beuuuuler? Anybody? |

I'm in as long as the person running it lays off the donuts.
Donuts are for fat, disgusting people who lack self control.
Don't have another donut, people!!! |

You know Van, you can keep your handle even if you live on the mainland. |

guess it's that time, feels more like it today cus it looks friggin gloomy out. the first sat. games this wkend coincide with chuseok, the big long weekend...lol. this year we'll have the extra challenge of getting the picks in on time, before the 'critical error' or 'you are not authorized...' crapola.
looks like we have 9ish right now, so who else is in?? |

How do you all want to do the rules?
Here's the way it's been for the last couple of years...quoted from last year's thread. I figure to avoid tetching and squabbling it'd be best to settle the rules now, and then leave them.
"I post the NHL Saturday night games and you pick the 5 teams that you think are going to win. Get all 5 picks correct and get a bonus point. Every week, one game will be designated as the GAME OF THE WEEK which will be worth two points. Total possible points for a week is therefore 7 points, something we here at the NHL PICK 5 like to call a COOL BURN!
DEADLINE for picks is at least 30 minutes before all the games begin. "
Good system, I thought, but some tweaks might be cool. Ideas?
As for who picks the Game of the Week--the voting/suggestion system seemed good enough.
As for who runs it--as I said before, I'm happy to, I'm doing a couple other pools anyway, but if anybody else wants to step up, I'll step back happily.
Here's the first few games, next Saturday, to get you thinking about your picks...
CHICAGO v. FLORIDA
(@HELSINKI, FI)
VANCOUVER @ COLORADO
ST LOUIS v DETROIT
(@STOCKHOLM, SE)
CAROLINA @ BOSTON
MONTREAL @ BUFFALO
PHILADELPHIA @ NEW JERSEY
PITTSBURGH @ NY ISLANDERS
OTTAWA @ NY RANGERS
TORONTO @ WASHINGTON
TAMPA BAY @ ATLANTA
MINNESOTA @ COLUMBUS
NASHVILLE @ DALLAS
CALGARY @ EDMONTON
SAN JOSE @ ANAHEIM
PHOENIX @ LOS ANGELES

why not just have a different person pick the game of the week on a rotating basis
1
2
3
.
.
9
when pick is made one's name goes to the bottom of the list and the next name rotated in, if pick not made by tuesday midnight korean time then the next name on the list makes the pick on wednesday, if not made then thursday the next name on the list makes the pick
simple, easy, guarranteed to get a pick made... equal distribution of choice
it would be nice to only have to check in twice a week max. (busy lives and all) |

and a rule: no changes in the format of the game without at least ONE FULL WEEK NOTICE (no last minute throw in games) |
