also, the games......is it true that there are some that are region free, so work on both PAL and NTSC systems??
hopefully someone can clear this up for me!

You'll need a newer TV, but you probably had the same here anyway.
You'll need a step-up transformer.
Yes, there are many region-free games. Some are even NTSC-U and PAL, but not J. The link given is pretty good. |

As long as you're using the component (red green blue) or HDMI inputs on your TV you'll get a good image. |

thanks for that list!! unfortunately, it looks like i'll have to sell the PAL xbox and get a new one when i get to canada......bought rock band 2 with the instruments when i was in canada on vacation and left it there til i go back, cos it was only $99 for the whole set. but the game is region locked! one thing ive noticed when looking online to get an xbox is that canada has shitty bundles!! in the uk, there are really good bundles....the elite, GAT 4, fight night 4, tiger woods 10 and call of duty......whereas the only thing i can find online in canada is elite with halo3 or gat 4! so i think i'll buy some games from home that will work on the NTSC system. cos the games seem to be a little cheaper there than in canada |

ok, so ive decided to sell my PAL xbox and buy one in canada..............only because when i was in canada on vacation, i saw rock band 2 (game plus all the kit) for $99 which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the UK. so i bought it and left it there for when i return. only problem is, ive now found out that rock band 2 is region locked! so im gonna buy an NTSC system. but ive looked at online sites in Canada and the games seem to be a bit pricey......i can get them a good bit cheaper in the UK. so.....I need to find out if these PAL games will work on an NTSC system. ive tried google but im really struggling to find anything. so if you guys know anything at all, or can point me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it!! these are the games im looking at buying at home, so if you know anything, please let me know

You'll get a lot of the info you're looking for from these sites...
http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=6
http://ludibria.com/index.php?sys=x36
...best advice, however, is to read the front of the box and ask the salesclerk.
I'll give you the info I've found from those sites and another site for the first ten games you listed...
GoW2 - likely region-free
Halo 3 - likely region-free
Ninja Gaiden II - likely region-free
Batman (Arkham Asylum?) - likely region-free
Mirror's Edge - NOT region-free
call of Duty 4 - likely region-free
Left 4 Dead - likely NOT region-free, but GOTY should be
GTA 4 - likely NOT region-free
Fallout 3 - possibly PAL + NTSC/U
Resident Evil 5 - likely region-free |

I can say that L4D is region free. The NTSC-J version works fine on my Yank 360. Same with Godfather II, and Gears of War II. The NTSC-J versions work fine. |

so is it sort of safe to assume that if one or two versions of the game (eg american or asian) are listed as region free, that the PAL version is also likely to be? it just seems to be difficult to find info about PAL games....i found one site that lists quite a few games but i dont think it has been updated in a while
cheers for the help and those links! |

hey
just letting you guys know that i emailed videogamesplus.ca, because they have a list of NTSC games that are region free. I asked them if the PAL versions of these games would work on NTSC-U systems and they said they would! so looks like I can take most of my games with me when i move out there |
