|
|
I am just curious, as a recruiter who is helping me is submitting applications quite often to EPIK.
Are jobs still available through EPIK even now? I am guessing they are primarily in the rural areas of Korea? Are applications to rural areas as competitive as applying to metropolitan areas?
Thank you! |

The PS jobs have gone over to the FEB starting dates. If you're not in Korea, you won't get the ASAP PS jobs. Why not apply to SMOE, EPIK. and hagwon jobs as well? |

Oya. I guess sending an email to my recruiter was a good thing: I have no idea what is going on when she told me she received notice of more public school positions opening. I hope she responds later today.
I have applied for multiple recruiters and hagwons, which doesn't seem to be looking so great. Most have ignored me. The market is quite saturated, which may explain why. Among other things. |

The EPIK application for February opens Oct. 1. Certainly almost all of the September positions have already been filled. You should be able to find work in hagwons, though. |

Several POEs who do their own EPIK hiring have openings for positions through December. |

Do you just make stuff up as you go along? What you wrote here has nothing to do with reality. |

The 17 EPIK recruiters for the main program (listed on the EPIK website) will certainly tell you that all PS schools have gone for 2009 and you now have to start applying and sending your documents for the February 2010 start. This is because they cannot get openings to the public for any other months. They can only access the EPIK jobs for the 2 main intake times (August and February)
EPIK does not officially place teachers other than March and Sept unless they have vacancies from drop outs or runners. In these cases they probably get a teacher directly from one of the EPIK recruiters or someone who had previously contacted the EPIK website directly.
What cruisemonkey said is correct ; some POE- provincial offices of education, do hire EPIK teachers directly all year round and don't use the main EPIK recruiters at all.
Gyeongnam Province has PS jobs every month of the year and put a new list of PS jobs was out last week for November and December. There were a few advertisements on Dave's job board for these jobs .
These are real EPIK jobs.

I found out from my recruiter that the positions were from Gyeongnam-do. I think she mainly works with the EPIK office there. Though she has said that she doesn't know if I will be able to even get the position because I didn't last time for the same county. Other than that, I think the other PS positions are for the March 2010 term. |

I just started one in a rural area last thurs.
I once started one in June.
Teachers come and go / don't turn up / do a run / quit / get fired all year round.... |

Yeah I was wondering about this too, I'm looking for a public school job in Ulsan at the end of November and was told by one recruiter that even for Feb there's only one position available.
Is the best way to go just to put your application in for EPIK and be in line for a spot if something comes up?
I'm also looking at private school jobs, but would prefer public school.
Has anyone had an experience with contacting the local Board of Education directly? |

I emailed someone from EPIK last week and the person I talked to sent me an email saying they only had one expected vacancy in Ulsan in the February intake and that she thought I'd be better off applying for Busan. Completely ignoring the part of my email that stated I wanted to move to Ulsan as that's where my girlfriend lived of course |

I got an email from a recruiter that had an attachment where it listed the number of potential openings for each area. Ulsan was listed as 1 and Busan as 250 (which was the highest number out of all areas) |

Yes, there are still public school positions out there as I've just been offered one. |
