For all you that are job-hunting on the big job board, how many responses are you getting for your emails? ie., How many do you send out vs. how many do you get back?

Also, what is their average response time? Are there ones out there responding within 24-48 hours? or are they usually a week or two later, if that?

I'm not hunting right now, myself, but am curious of the response levels of the current market and their timeliness.

I seemed to get responces from maybe 1/3 to 1/2 (forget exactly, its been a while) and usually within a few days back when I was job hunting. Guess I was the right demographic being American, young, blue-eyed and white-skinned, because it sure as hell wasn't any experience or qualificiations that were doing it.

I know my boss waits until the application deadline comes before he sends out any responses. I keep trying to tell him that not answering for 6 weeks is the same as saying he is not interested in the applicant. Naturally that does not register with him.

I used to swear that posting a resume was worthless. It used to be, but this time when I was job hunting, it was GREAT.

Schools said that they use that instead of paying to place ads, where before, ads were cheaper or free.

Post your resume all over!

What upsets me more than employers not acknowledging my application is employers who express an interest in you and then disappear later. Recently, I applied to a university that scheduled a phone interview. They didn't call and never acknowledged my e-mails asking what happened. So much for professional courtesy!

This is a good point, but now schools have to pay to see resumes and they are not all paying. It may be cheaper for them to place ads now.

I know what you mean. I see the postings from the major recruiters, and send them off a resume or go to their website to post the information needed. One lady from ATC said that she would call, and did not call when she said she would. I did not get a response from that agency since. The ones that are in Korea, hard to get a response from them. Though when I apply to a U.S. / Canada recruiting agency, they respond quickly.

Schools, I found that they are more personable when applying to you. Since the ones that I have spoken to before while in Korea (already had a job but knew some of the owners) said that they have been burnt by some recruiting agencies in S.K and feel that it is better for them (owner of the hogwan) to do the work. Since the know what they are looking for.

I also heard from several employees and from one recruiter, that if someone has a bad experience at a hogwan. That person's name is sent to all the recruiting services to be avoided, kind of like a "blacklist". So if you want a job, I recommend going through a U.S. / Canada / non-Korean agency.

I've never heard of this. I recruit and have associations with 6 other recruiters in Korea and we don't see this. There are 4 or 5 recruiters that operate under a few different aliases, so maybe that's how that rumor got started.

During our recent job search, we received maybe 1/5 responses. The most frustrating aspects were applying for positions that had already been filled and recruiters constantly contacting you, when you specifically state no recruiters.
