My husband and I are considering teaching abroad for a year, but we have a young daughter, so one or both of us would need to work part-time. I am graduating with a Master's in Education in December and my husband has a BS.

Are there part-time positions available? When I've searched a lot of them say there are only 22 teaching hours, but I'm assuming the other 18 hours would be at the school. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Smile

yes positions are available but you need an F series visa. ie: married to a Korean (F2), lived here 5 years (F5) or are have Korean family background (F4).......

With PT jobs with companies you have to get OKed by both the recruiter and then the company-the latter person typically being some random office worker.

(as an aside my wife told me that at her old recruiters, the manager told the school "We'll tell the NT to dye their hair at the airport before you meet them" in answer to the school wanting a blond/blonde teacher. It was meant sarcastically, but he didn't think it registered)

If you tick all of the main food groups-blonde, female, NAmerican and young/easy on the eye and your sponsor will permit you to work PT (some won't as they are paying for accommodation, pension, health so why should anyone else benefit?) then you can do pretty well if you can fit in the work.

At most public school, yes you are expected to stay at school. But at hagwons, you are only expected to stay there when you are teaching your classes (plus maybe an hour for lesson planning).

An arrangement you may want to consider: one of you works at a kindi hagwon (where you'll probably have classes between 10am and 6pm) while the other works at an adult hagwon (and will have classes in the early morning and late evening). This will ensure that one of you is at home with your daughter at all times.
