Can't find a new one, but a used 2009 with 11,000 kms is running over 32 million won:

My guess is you'd be paying about 35 to 37 million won new.

Bass is right. They only seem to sell the V6 higher end version here (from what I saw anyways). Almost every Accord you see will have sunroof, leather, and the more powerful engine. They're great cars but they seem to change their design a little too often which would affect the resale value negatively.

Same goes for the Civic; I've only seen the upper trim (EX?) in Korea and I believe they are priced in the upper 20s which seems ridiculous coming from a place where Civics are generally less than 20gs.

I'd shudder to think what oil changes and repairs for an Accord cost. I know Ford cars cost over 100,000 for oil changes. Repairs are insane, because parts must be ordered and shipped from overseas. That also takes time.

Koreans are insane for paying all that extra money for new cars. I think the majority of Koreans probably buy one year old used cars and ship them from the originating country just to save on taxes though. Maybe not, who knows - this is a country of show-offs

I just paid $225 for an oil change at my Lexus dealer and I provided my own oil (10 quarts of Mobil 1). So all told, it cost $300 for that oil change. You pays to play.

I think the Hondas are purchased locally as there seem to be a lot of new dealers springing up and I've seen many 2009 Accords everywhere in Seoul. I guess they are considered 'luxury' cars here since it's a foreign brand and they're well-equipped (well Korean cars can be well-equipped also). Accords are hardly considered luxury in the U.S. or Canada though.

It's true however that many people here lease 1-2 year old luxury cars rather than buy them outright. If you go to www.bobaedream.co.kr it's rare to find a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, etc. that you can purchase for cash rather than takeover a lease.

That's nuts.

Why did you take your to the Lexus dealer?

Why not just any old auto shop? It doesn't take any special skill to change oil.

10 quarts??? That much mobile 1 is going to cost you a bit, regardless.

I take it to my Lexus dealer because I don't want any hassles with the warranty. If anything goes wrong, then they know that they are the only ones that ever worked on my car. In fact, this past oil change, I found that they scratched one of my wheels, so they took care of it for me. Pretty nice piece of mind since the replacement cost of each wheel is nearly $2,000 a piece. Shocked

BTW, in order to prevent the wave of "I'm a liar" responses, here is a copy of the last bill:

Again, this bill does not include the oil I purchased separately, as they charge about $10-12 a quart for Mobile 1.

And here is the page from my owner's manual showing that my car (V-8 engine) takes 10 quarts:

Makoda,

You live in Korea, no?

The bill denominated in USD and it's all in English.

I drive a fairly new Avante, but it's getting too small since I got two kids. I was looking at upgrading to a new import (little dick syndrome I guess), but at $300 for an oil change... shheee-ite!!

I'd hate to see what real repairs would cost.

It's a lot of money just to impress some Korean at the gas station.

why would you want to spend all that money on a brand new imported car? ever notice how few honda cars there are in Korea?

The first 10,000 miles of a car are the most expensive and the moment you drive a new car off the lot it drops 25% of its value. After four years it goes down to 50% of its value

why not get a 2006 used korean car for way cheaper. If it has low miles it will still run almost like new and should last for at least a couple more years

Because I like that new car smell Cool

I bought my Avante new and it's only a year old now, but it's getting too small. Sure I paid a premium because it was new, but it was worth it for me.

Same thing with a luxury imported car. They're an absolute waste of money, but you only have one life so why not live it in style.

Don't buy an Accord, unless you want the transmission to fail around 75,000-90,000 miles.

I had an accord (bought new) and were plagued with the following problems:
I've had to retime the idle a few times because the engine would either shut off at a stop.
Check engine light would come on for no reason.
Headlamp would always burn out after months of use
Around 40,000 miles the transmission was starting to slip. I could feel a noticeable lag when the gears changed from 1st to 2nd.
VTEC controller went out at 110,000 miles
Transmission rebuilt at 95,000 miles (it was completely gone. Spent around $3500 to have it rebuilt)

I'm never buying honda again. In the future, I'm getting a Toyota. I think Camry's are much better than Accords.
