There's another "Benji" who posts here on Dave's (benji), and then there's benji1422 on this thread. If I were the other one of them, I'd want people to differentiate which one of us is getting the smackdown several pages after their last post. Not everyone will read all 25 pages.
Speaking of which, if weren't for all the disruptions from several male posters, I suspect this thread would have petered out around Page 5. I mean, c'mon, "dating" in Korea? There's ruttng and there's marriage and not a whole lot in between. (just to keep the ball rolling) |

This also happens to appear to be pretty true, in my opinion (did I get enough qualifiers in there?).
The thing is, the 'dating' culture kinda screws around with your perception of which is which, I think. Particularly for women.
One more time, ladies: beware the romantic over-zealous texter! 바람둥이.

I was on the train the other day with one of my girlfriends, and there were these two hot business-type guys who kept staring at us. I don't know if they were curious because I'm black, or curious because they wanted to come over or what, but from my perspective, they looked like if they had the courage, they would come over.
Korean guys have asked me my number on the street. Maybe they thought I was a *beep*, hahaha. OMG, hahaha. Maybe they just wanted my number for English practice.
Who knows? My point is, a lot of people here like to pretend that foreign women here are just not even on the scope of Western or Korean men's vision. You know what I mean? Like they just work and go home and that's it for them, and that the only Western woman that gets play here are the super skinny blonds with big breasts.
My 100 won: don't listen to a lot of the men here who say "lose weight" to get a man, or try to be something you're not (reading cosmo? what?) because that type of living is a lie.
It's not who you are. And eventually, the "real" you will show herself. What kind of relationship do you want? One where you're constantly pretending? Or one where you can kick back after a long day of work, swig a beer, and chat about nothing?
Relying on Western men to tell you how you should date/feel while in Korea is like jumping into a intercultural relationship and then just expecting them to "be N. American/European/whatever". Why would you do that? LOL.
Live your life, ladies (and fellas). I know I talk a lot of #$%@ sometimes but honestly, it's with good intentions. People just need to be happy. Damn!

Is it so wrong that this thread is more about what women want men to be like in a relationship?
No that's fine, why shouldn't it be. I daresay that would be some itneresting and amusing reading for both men and women alike. |

Oooh I quite agree. Actually I feel like we haven't really talked about that.
Alright, let me lay out what I would like to find, in Korea or at least some point in my life:
1. A guy* who can have sex with someone while still respecting them and viewing them as potential relationship material.
2. A guy who calls/writes/texts when he says he will, or randomly, so that I don't feel like I have to do all the work (which, from the impression I'm getting, Korean guys are actually pretty good at).
3. A guy who can have a relationship with someone without getting so tripped up in drama and labels and expectations and wondering "what does this mean?" or "what should I say??"
4. Someone who has some kind of ambition, and
5. I don't know why, but I really like skinny, girly, heroin chic kind of guys. I wouldn't turn down a conventionally attractive man with a great personality, but I get really bothered (in a good way) around slightly androgynous, sensitive guys.
Examples:

http://i26.tinypic.com/2pplwqo.jpg
hasdjfashfhasd Hayden Christensen in that movie.... :}~
Interestingly, this doesn't work in the reverse. My type with women is the kind of Helga look...long blonde hair, tall, thick and/or curvy, and pouty.
For example:

*wistful sigh* Marisa Miller's body is insane. Sometimes you can't even look at it straight on. It's like the sun.

How is this a human person? I don't understand!
OT, when looking through pics, I came across this one. What is up with her hands?!?!

*all of these 'guy's can be changed to 'lady's, but to stay on point...
Wow I have spent long enough on this post already...moving on.

Actually screamed at? Wow, yup, scary.
My friend is dating a Korrean girl and she gets really upset and angry if he doesnt instantly reply to her texts... he has to explain that he was in the shower, or teaching a class, lol...
My female foreign friends say that the Korean guys text them way to much and get a bit 'clingy' if that's the right word, too soon.
I wonder if Korean men and women are like that with each other or just with foriegners. Could they just be insecure as we have reputaions for being more promiscuous or 'looser' with regards to dating perhaps...?
Or maybe its just part of their culture and is the same whomever they're dating. Anyone know...?
rOs - yeah she has not enough fingers, that's odd.

oh, btw, you might want to edit your post and make it clear that some of those images aren't safe for work, I almost got in trouble there, I have kindy students having a Korean class in the same room....

What I've heard from my male Korean friends: If you don't answer a (Korean) girl's texts within 30-40 minutes, you are toast. Furthermore, if you are dating a (Korean) girl and you do not send her at least ten texts a day, you are also toast.
These are young guys who I'm sure are dealing with even younger girls, in most cases. I think it probably slows down when they get older. But The Text Message is a serious part of most younger Koreans' relationships, I think.
And not actually screamed at, no. Sort of shrieked at a bit, though. It was sexy. And not immature at all. |
