Hey,

Know there is likely a lot about this but the Search never works for me. Looking for a clean budget place to stay, away from the madness but close enough to walk. I really like "Shambara Boutique Guesthouse" but the shared bathrooms don't jive with the missus. Let me know if you got any suggestions.

not a bad place to stay at all. i stayed there once or twice before deciding to stay around sukhumvit more recently. i'll always have a special place in my heart for khao san and rambuttri, but my wife isn't a big fan of banglamphu.

I always stay in that place the guy mentioned above. It is not bad and cheap, but not as nice as the pics.

Get off the main drag where the parade of idiots like to strutt.
You'll find cheaper cleaner and safer guest houses. Less noise too.

soi Rambuttri is much quieter than Khao San but still maintains a strong backpacker vibe. Phra Athit is well worth a mention too. Lots of restaurants and cafes. As long as you're not going in high season, you can walk around and look at a bunch of places. You'll quickly find something that will fit your needs and budget.

Best to pay a little more if you can.

I wanted once to do the whole 'Leo in the beach' thing, you know going as cheap as you can... stayed in a place for 100 baht a night smack bang in the middle of Koh Sahn Rd.

hard as rock bed, condensation soaked walls, lizards and weird looking crawly insects up the walls, on the ceiling... noisy fan (no ac) so couldn't sleep as it was too hot without it... no blankets, sheats or duvet of any kind... open shower area that could be seen from the reception.... only cold water.. and as for the downright bizarre, creepy and scary foriegners that were living there long(ish) term...

That is what you get for 100. If you pay 400 you get a decent place. Even a hut on a secluded beach costs more than 100.

Ha I know, I've stayed at all kinds of places in Thailand lol...

That time around I really actually wanted to find and stay a night in the cheapest most crappy place I could actually find just for the expereince. I think I may have been drunk to come up with this idea lol...
