Any first-timer would be very lucky or have a very generous boss to get a 100 hour per month contract. Even then you're working 7 or 8 classes per day.

8 classes a day is "lucky"? Geez, what are you working, 14 per day?

Gotta love the curve balls... There was some confusion and the director says is actually 8x40 each day... From the sounds of things this is simply too much for maintanance of sanity.

On the other hand, if he's fudging about this before you've signed the contract, god only knows what he has in store for you later.

Get 7 or less in writing, or f*** him.

I don't doubt that Shawner is working the hours he works, or that he never wants to work more ever again (who would?), but he has a lot more room to manoeuver because he's in a small town, which puts him in higher demand.

I've only worked in and around Seoul, so our perspectives are different.

Your Mileage May Vary.

Man 7 classes a day is going to make your eyes pop out and your head start to wobble. That's way too much. I teach 3-5/day at a hagwon for the same pay/no taxes.

What's wrong with it? I do it. 7 x 40 = 280 mins per day. That's average.

After the feedback given from this post I decided that the 8x40min was a little less than desired. My girlfriend and I have accepted a position thats 6-7 40 min classes a day from 2-7:30 each day in Gwanju. Thanks for all the input as it definitely played a factor in our decision.

We leave on tuesday... its time to get excited Wink

Congratulations on finding a better deal. A 2-7:30 block shift is a pretty sweet deal (you got that in the contract, right?), especially for your first year.
