I was giving an example of racism.
As for terorrism being completely unrelated to whites, you need to get an education. Study history. The vast majority of the terrorism acts that have ever occured in the US have been by white extremists. From lynchings to bombings to shootings, no other group has been more of a source of terrorism in America than whites --- ie. European-Americans.
To this day there are tons of white supremacist terror cells across America. In fact, they are increasing. In reponse to a major recession, a major influx of non-white immigrants, a more diversifying America, and a black president, white terror cells are increasing in America. It's common knowledge.

It takes a narrow minded person like Geckoman to read an article about a few US stupid bigot clowns, and pseudo supremacists and then conclude that the 150 million or so US mainstream whites are somehow consciously and unconsciously conspiring to attack non-whites. The article was written during the Obama hype, and so the media focused on a couple lone wolf cases, and vilified these fringe moments as a growing threat without discussing the underline factors that are giving rise to white nationalism in the US.
But you know Carla, there are a few anti white racists out there that really hate seeing white Americans get jobs in S. Korea� |

Geckoman, I am sure you've taught reading to students from Namhan (South Korea), but, yet, you didn't read what the poster said properly and then flamed. He didn't say one shouldn't hire gyopos. He stated that often people are not really gyopos in the sense of really being raised or born in Canada or the US and often have only lived there for say 10 to 13 years and in many cases came late in the game when it came to being in an environment where ESL and not EFL is the norm.
I did work with a Korean American who would make serious grammatical errors. He did live in the US for 13 years, but he went to the US when he is not so young. One Korean American I met said the same thing as the poster you replied to i.e. that many people who call themselves gyopos are not quite gyopos in his mind. This is all relative. I don't agree that one should simply by-pass a Korean American just because he went to the US say when he was 13. It depends on how well he or she speaks. Often, when you learn your L2 at a later age, it's not so easy to mimic a native speaker.
I am not sure it was appropriate to attack Caucasians because the poster felt some (not all) Koreans with American citizenship are not qualified to teach English. I happen to agree somewhat, based on experience. There are definite exceptions. A Korean born in North America would be better at English than one who wasn't, generally. It would be the same with a black person from Africa or German Caucasian who come later to the US and learn English versus people of the respective extraction being born in the country. |

I said the poster was a racist because he stopped considering gypos as English teachers. He just dismissed them all as no good without even looking at their applications. That's what he said. And that's racist.

Even though most members of the European-American community are not racist white supremacists, that doesn't mean we should ignore the problem and not fight back against white extremism.
As a result of the European-American community coming under tough times due to the global recession, a major influx of non-European immigrants, a more diversifying America, and a African-American president, there has been an increase in the number of European-Americans falling into white extremism.

As an idea for solving the problem and to steer this thread away from the flames maybe we should form an organization for Kyopo/F-series teachers...oh wait...flame on...
In all seriousness I think the way to overcome this problem is to push the Korean powers-that-be to institute race neutral standardized English tests to determine qualifications. No one can complain then. Hire based off scores. |

Is there such thing as "race neutral" tests? We were just having this issue in the states. A lot of people claim that standardized tests favor white people and put black and hispanics at a disadvantage. They even had a court case not too long ago that a promotion test for a fire department was unfair because too many white people scored high and the other ethnicities did not.
Either which way, a race neutral test would certainly favor one or two nationalities above the others based on differences in spelling, grammar, and pronunciation. |
