I wanted to give this e-mail a positive Title. A few days ago I was going to ask for tips on online teaching aids, having just received my E-2 visa. So, I really could go and teach in a public school inAnyang, The contract was with the school, not GEPIK.I was looking forward to this, and to teaching small children, because they make you laugh.
ALMOST soon as I got my visa the school was furious and cancelled it.
I have tried applying to work in Korea several times, having been there in 2004. I found the new rules to be onerous. Working full-time, and getting the visa was hard. The school and the agent got angry because I hadn't come as soon as I got my visa. I wanted to come to Korea because I had really, really liked it in some ways. But the visa process made me bitter. Why do Koreans get so angry?
I wanted to add that many teachers now will bereluctant to come to Korea. Is there now too much prejudice against us? My agent, I think was finding it harder to recruit people.

Why were they furious? This story doesn't make any sense.

I take it they were furious because you didn't leave when you got you got your visa after fulfilling their end of the Immigration requirements. Maybe they were expecting a English teacher and for you to START WORKING on a certain date?

Yea, I'd be furious too.

Yes, the hiring/visa process is confusing, messy, and complicated. But maybe they figure a college graduate (#1 requirement besides breathing) is up to it? Losing sight of the big picture could be an indication that they picked the wrong person and that seems to be who they are taking their anger out on.

What was the beginning work date in your contract?

What was the date you got your E2 visa?

What was the date that you actually planned to start working?

If you planned to begin working on a date that fell after both the date you got your visa and the date in your contract for your first day of work, why should your employer wait for you to show up?
