Well. Thanks to this thread, I finally watched Requiem for a Dream.
I didn't feel quite right for a few hours afterwards.....the mark of a great movie. The fact that I've dabbled in drugs myself made it all the more powerful.
But those final scenes with Connelly.....omg. Had to cover my eyes for the final hospital scenes too. I think it was the orchestral music that tied it all together SO well. |

pot, coke, mushrooms, acid, E
My "positive" experiences (drug users out there will understand my meaning) with these will NOT let myself be allowed to try meth or heroin. I fully know that would be the end of Me. So thank God I didn't and never will.
What are some other movies similar to Requiem...? Drug use, drug culture movies- Trainspotting; Go; Pulp Fiction ...all I can think of right now. |

In the Realm of The Senses. The Japanese Movie.
Other than that- pretty much any big budget movie I got dragged to over the last 10 years-
Matrix III
Transformers
All 3 Lord of the Rings
Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Though III was ok, but not great.
Pearl Harbor
Ocean's Eleven
Men in Black II
All of those made me say WTF did I just spend my money on???
Ever since them I've been done with non-war action movies. Drama, Mystery, heck even chick flicks seem more worthwhile than watching a bunch of CGI explode on screen. |

American Psycho -- felt like half of the movie was edited out. What exactly happened with the coat hanger?
The Chaser -- Korean movie that left me empty with the ending, despite being a pretty interesting flick. |

Pi written as the Greek symbol. It's a cery odd black and white movie about this deranged mathematician on the verge of making a great discovery. It's directed Darren Aronofksy, the same guy who directed Requiem for a Dream, another wtf movie |

I preferred Requiem for a Dream as a book. Last exit to Brooklyn was set in the same time as the book for that matter
WTF films-American Psycho. Where were my favourite scenes?? eg "Zoo" |

watch that movie.. it will thrump all the WTF movies you have ever seen! |
Seconded. Passolini was terminally ill while making this, so he just made something so wrong and outrageous because he knew he would be dead when the backlash came. |
Hmm, his terminal disease was so bad that at the end he looked like he had been run over by a car multiple times. Seriously, what's your source for this information? |

Comments retracted. I was misinformed years ago. Salo still remains a shocking movie. |

Interestingly enough, two of the films cited as containing a high quotient of WTF, Salo and Pink Flamingoes, contain graphic coprophagy.
Divine literally grinning a big poo-eating grin still makes me gag, and I've seen the movie a number of times.
The opening sequence in Ichi the Killer is quite WTF as well. |

Nekromantik is worthwhile viewing as well, if you are looking for a really weird German necrophilia flick. It's a great first date movie. |
