|
|
Hi, can anyone help me out by answering the following questions? I appreciate it.
1) If I received my BA degree from a university outside of the state I currently live in, do I need to get the apostille from the school's state? Or can I just get it done where I live now?
2) I have California teaching credential, and the CTC (Commission on Teaching Credentialing) sent it to me via email (soft copy only). Will a printout of this be acceptable for my visa application? I don't think the CTC offers hard copies. Or does anyone know if they do under special circumstances?
Thank you! |

1) You don't get your degree apostilled. You get the notarized copy of your degree apostilled. The only thing that matters is the notary and the apostille is from the same state.
2) I have no clue. But, I do know immigration will refuse CBC's if they have any kind of internet printout tag on them, even if it is confirmed that it came from a police station. Any kind of tag on the CBC's, and it's a no go. |

1. You might consider buying a second copy of your degree. My uni offers one for like $25. Just tell them you lost it and need a new one.
2. No idea, sorry. |

Ya, we're lucky, our university replaces our degrees cheaply and easily. Other people have posted... expensive to replace.... you have to have a certified reason (police report, etc) to get it replaced.... you can only have it replaced 2 times in your entire life.... etc
Hmmmm.... maybe I should get a couple of extra copies just in case my university ever decides to up the fee or something.... |

But it has to be some sort of official copy, no? For instance, I went to school in Chicago, but now live in Minnesota. I can't just make a copy of my degree and get the notary and apostille here in Minnesota, right? I heard I need to send for a notarized copy through my alma mater's registrar office. |

Take your diploma to a notary. They will make a copy and notarize the copy. The notarized copy is what you send to be apostilled. Some states (like NY) have an added step where you must get your county clerk to authenticate the notary. Google your state and 'apostille' and find the official government site to see how it's done.
Like Carla said, the important thing is that the notary and the apostille are from the same state. The state official that does the apostille can not authenticate another state's notary, only one from their own state. |

bcraig: the copy, not the actual diploma.
and CA has the same process as NY. i have to go to the county clerk next before i get the apostille. |

The notary makes the copy, and stamps it. That's what makes it an official copy. You don't copy it and bring the copy to the notary, you bring the original to the notary. |
