I got a job teaching in Suwon, Korea, and my girlfriend is coming with me. She is on a F-4 visa because her mom is Korean, so she can legally work. She hasn't finished her degree yet, so my question is what type of work will be out there for her? Also, she doesn't speak Korean.
Will there be nanny jobs, or work on US Military bases available? |

She can legally work -- anywhere she wishes -- with her F-4, though I'm not sure of the legality of working in the teaching field without a 4 year degree. Because she doesn't speak Korean, she's at a disadvantage. That's for sure. |

she can get illegal work at any hagwon willing to fudge the paperwork a little (and that would mean almost all of them). and if for some reason immigration or the department of education should accidentally stumble across her, they will likely only warn her and fine the hagwon.
there will be no other work for her since the natives, once seeing that her hue is agreeable and being dutifully dumbfounded by her 'good Engrishee' will offer her ridiculous sums of money to spend an hour with her hoping some of her magic pixie dust will rub off on them and elevate their level of prestige among friends.
she could take a job doing something like editing, but her employers, upon seeing the racial facial features that make them feel warm and cuddly, will doubt her and tell her that she cannot possibly know grammar and spelling as well as a native speaker.
this leaves 7-11, it pays less then 3000won an hour, but there is lots of down time where she can sit behind the counter and study so she can get her degree (for all the darn good it will do).
everyone she meets will expect her to speak korean as well and get really nasty and bitter when they find out she doesnt 'know the mother tongue'.
in short, both of you get ready for a lot of borscht soup. |

She is eligible to work for the base. But she will get hired as a local Korean hire and not as an American.
But with the big influx of military dependents now coming, they will get preference first. |

I'd say good luck with that. I'm also looking for non-teaching work, did finish my degree and don't speak Korean very well either. It's near to impossible |

Well, it never hurts to try, but you'd better be prepared for the possibility she won't find anything and think of alternative solutions. Perhaps she could finish her degree here, or do something related? |

She can work at Mcdonald's, Starbucks, Burger King, or many other places where a 4 year degree isn't required. |

No she can't. She would need korean language skills
To the op think about this, what are the chances of finding a job back home with no English skills |

You're right about that. She can take some Korean classes when she's here for a hew months. Then she can get a job at those places. It shouldn't take very long to learn:
"Are you ready to order?"
"What kind of drink would you like that?"
"Is there anything else?"
"Your total is ______." |

I would say go in with a Korean/ F5 westerner and work in a western coffee shop or restaurant. Not sure if this would be difficult to arrange (anyhow this would need a visa of some sort).
Haven't been to Suwon but hoping there is still demand there. |
