Pattaya is not the same as Itaewon because of the scale and ubiquity of prostitution. Also, you'll see a lot of older men with younger girls.

The city, as somebody else mentioned on another post, is an open brothel. An unsettling thing is that they're trying to encourage families to come here. So, you'll see a mother, father and young daughter walking bewilderedly down the street being passed leaflets for ping-pong shows, past DVD stalls selling child porn (there's a stall selling child porn directly outside the StarBucks, next to the front door) etc.

I've been talking to a few bar managers and they've assured me that the girls have the option of rejecting a customer and it seems to be that way, at least in some places. Unfortunately, poverty can be a persuasive incentive and the amount of lost glazed eyes putting on the seductive act drags you down.

What options do these girls have? Ask them about their dreams and they'll say marry a rich foreigner.
