|
|
I'm keen on getting an Xbox 360 now that I've settled in Korea...and the lure of PES has overcome me.
Now I guess my options are walking into Homeplus or somewhere and buying a Korean one off the shelf or heading to Yongsang and try to navigate my way round and negotiate for a modded one.
What are the pros and cons of both options? I'm worried that if I buy the off the shelf Korean one all the language settings will be in Korean immobilising me. However, I'm wary of buying a duff one at Yongsang and flushing my money down the drain.
Any advice would be appreciated. |

I personally would never mod mine. Here are my pros and cons of modding:
Pros:
Free (or very cheap) games
The ability to play games without worrying about region locks (I think)
Cons:
Inability to use xbox live (you will eventually get banned)
The need to update your DVD drive firmware (for those not technically inclined, it's not doable)
Someone has been inside your xbox, and you won't have any warranty coverage. You also don't know the manufacture date of your xbox, so it may use an 'old' chipset, which may be more prone to overheating.
For me, the cons far outweigh the pros. I love xbox live, and I only really play a few games. They're cheap to buy at Yongsan, too. I got Halo 3 ODST for 40,000 won a few days ago.
I say go legit. And this is coming from a guy who's modded countless original xboxes.
Edit: Another con: Never knowing juuuust when Microsoft is going to unleash the banhammer and scan connected clients. Also you won't have to worry the next time a sweet update comes to the xbox dashboard. |

Thanks for the responses guys. What about the language problem? If I buy a Korean Xbox how easy will it be to change the language into English? |

ppcg4's info is pretty good, but there can still be region issues you might have to deal with. I have both an unmodded us box and a modded kor/jap one. I have purchased nhl 09/10 for the us box...neither works on the kor one. Fact. Seems like there are only pal and us versions of pes 2009, so you won't be playing that on a box you buy here anyway, whether it's modded or not...guess you can play the 2010 demo on either a modded or unmodded one. I don't know what the region-coding will be like for the actual release though...LIKELY it won't be region-free. It's true that you never know when the m$ ban may come down on a modded box, but they also say that if you are careful(not playing a game until after official release, etc), you may never be banned. Who knows? As you mentioned nothing about a live account, I'd say your best choice is the modded one, but that's your choice to make. The language issue will be limited to none, no matter where you buy it. Link some screen shots using your digital camera and we can help you, if that's necessary. |

I've been using a modded one on live for a few years. Get stealth patched games. Soft mod your Xbox. It's also fairly easy to mod your Xbox without voiding your warranty (use a hairdryer). |

i wish people would have some knowledge before posting.
my modded xbox works fine on XBL. you have to read about the iso before you put it in your machine. if it doesnt pass a stealth check. it will flag your xbox. also, new games require the newer firmware. 1.6 is current I believe.
as far as what games work on what xbox, you will have to find the compatibility list somewhere on google. most will work on us xbox and korean. |
