I was hooked on Ragnarok for quite a while. I play Guild Wars as well, but not so often and not for long periods of time. |

| I just got my copy from my friend in the states and have happily been playing it all weekend. I'm surprised my laptop can handle it. My PC back home stands no chance... |

| I fired up the Korean version on PlayNC. I paid for a 30 hour pack for 12,000W to try it out, game was a free download. Since the games are basically identical there are plenty of English quest guides out there. NCSoft is working on an English iphone app that is a copy of their power wiki. They've got a korean one already. Completely playable and I'm sure if you had a couple of english speaking buddies it would be more or less the same. |

Dude 30 hours for 12,000?
That seems friggin expensive??
Games charge around 30,000 a month for monthly fees no? |

No, monthly subscription is around 19,800 W, but its not unlimited, its 300 hours (but thats 10 hours a day, should be enough for most people) They also have a 90 day 900 hour package for around 47,000W. As I said for a very casual player it might be ideal. I go through spurts, where I play the crap out of these types of games, then not play for awhile. The 19800 works out to around $2 more a month than the US price.

I guess if you really wanted a "trial" account, you could pay 3,000W for 3 hours just to give it a whirl and see if you like it.
Keep in mind the game is free to download in Korea, you don't have to shell out $40-$50 to get a serial. So depending on how long you played it, divide that out over the months. If you played the game less than 24 months buying monthly subscriptions you'd come out slightly ahead in Korea.
I've gotten past level 10, i'm up in the veteran area. It keeps reminding me how I've really gotta buckle down and improve my Korean. Using an english wiki though its not hard to follow the quests, but I'm missing all the "flavor". You do get the ultra low ping though and if you have friends in Korea you can play in the same time zone.
[edit]I've updated my blog with instructions on how to get set-up for Korean Aion. One of the other key benefits I forgot to mention to playing Korean Aion is if you want to play from a PC방. I don't think you're going to find many that have US versions of the game installed. |
