The real reason that there won't be an Obamalama meeting is because we owe the chinese too much money. They have been buying U.S. bonds like crazy and -- you guessed ti --, The chinese debt component of the American economy has become "too big to fail". Pissing them off could send the U.S. economy reeling. That is also why the U.S. is not so high-and-mighty when it comes to criticism on China's human rights abuses, also. The United States simply can't afford it, financially.

That's not it. China is an emerging regional powerhouse and the Dalai Lama is small potatoes.

It must be tiresome being an idealist raging at geopolitical affairs.
