I have to travel to Gwangju to take a test and would like some advice on what to see/do there. Are there any people on this forum who live there and want to meet up? I just don't want to go there and turn around and leave right after my test.

Yeah, whats the date of your test? If its on the weekend, me and my friends are usually out and about, no reason you couldnt hang out with us. During the week most of us are busy with Korean lessons and extracurriculars though, so not so much time then.

I am arriving late Friday by train from Seoul. My test is the GRE Literature Subject test at Chonnam University at 8:30am Saturday morning. Friday night is out for me as I need sleep, and arriving around 1am is already bad enough. Saturday, however, is open.

Also, can anyone suggest good and cheap accommodations, preferably close to the university? Can't find too much online about hotels/love hotels in Gwangju.

There's not a lot of hotels around Chonnam University. You might be better off staying near the train station. There's a ton of hotels there and it's only about 10 minutes away from the University by bus / taxi. Just walk out of the train station, turn right and you'll see the beckoning of the neon lights.
