| For the last couple of weeks, like other folks here wrapping up their gig in Korea, I have been sending out resumes to my target country of interest-China. I have sent out a few resumes highlighting my qualifications and experience. A few of them sent contracts for me to sign, and others wanted a lot more information including CRC, health certificates, passport copies, photos, and other documents. But I have to wonder about some of these recruiters that request so many documents, and then seem to disappear. It�s all causing me to think that some of these so-called recruiters and agencies are fraudulent. Could they be part of a criminal syndicate just out to obtain information for the purposes of identity theft, or are there overseas law enforcement agencies out doing profiling? Any thoughts? |

Hi There,
Only one....I wish that recruiters and people who are hiring for legitimate schools would not do things EXACTLY the same way as identity thiefs would if it was a scam (ie ring up and demand you send information).
Honestly the first time I came to Korea (quite a while ago) I could not honestly say why I thought it wasn't a scam and the best I could come up with is that a lot of people posted about their experiences, good and bad
on the boards. |

| My TESOL college warned about sending original or even 'good' copies of documents to China without a 'solid' contract offer. |

| I would say a good and easy extra measure of protection would be to talk to them on the phone before you send anything. Most scammers probably wouldn't go that far as it is time inefficient. But I'm not sure about that. |

That's exactly what I have done tonight. I called a contact person in China (the one I was feeling uneasy about), and he turned out to be a very genuine, and extremely helpful person. The uni job and apartment look fantastic compared to the shoe box I am living in here. Not to mention that it would be nice to teach credit courses again.  |
