So, I've been here about two months and I need a haircut. But either I'm not looking in the right place or I'm blind because I don't think I've seen anything that resembles a barber shop or a salon. Where does a guy get his haircut in the Seoul area? We're in Gwangmyeong, but Seoul is a short ride away, so I'm not against it. Bonus points for English speakers or someone who can tell me how to say "Like it is, just shorter". |

You're in Gwangmyeong? Just go to Juno Hair at Cheolsan stn. It's where I go.
A little expensive for Korea (19000 won) but I get scalp massages, great shampooing, etc.
To attest at how good the haircuts are, on two separate occasions after leaving I've been approached by girls and asked for my number. Much to my gf's chagrin. |

Juno Hair is just that effin good.
actually it does sound pretty ridiculous, but well, that's life. I've started tipping my stylist. |

Well, I went to Juno hair, they did a great job, my girlfriend was thrilled, but all I got was more of "the look" than usual from girls on the bus. No tips will be coming out of my pocket! |

Went to Juno today. Great experience! No one there really spoke enough English to have a conversation with, but I was able to communicate my wishes and at several points he'd stop and make sure he was doing the right thing. They also had a large book of photos I was able to point to. 2 shampoos was much appreciated- One before the cut and one after to get rid of all the hair. They also had beverages available, I think they were free. I didn't grab anything.
The place was really nice, upscale. I paid 22,000 which was totally fair. You'd drop 60 or 80 for this in the states. They also signed me up for a membership card- 10% off from now on, plus they gave me a 5,000 off gift certificate. They also walked me out which was cute.
Anyway, Juno ++. Good suggestion, I'd totally send anyone there. What're the rules on tipping hair stylists? I figured since tipping was verbotten elsewhere this was unlikely to be the exception, but I'd rather like to show my gratitude next time. |

This is so silly. Unless you've got daffodils growing on your head, just go to a neighborhood barber shop and pay the 8000 Won, which includes the shampoo and a very good cut. Just walk around the neighborhood and look through the windows.
And don't tip. Enough countries have been messed up with that rule already. If you are grateful just show it with a great grin and some hand motions. That will be more than enough. |

I agree with this, and I laughed at the bit about the daffodils. ^^ |

Go to the nice looking places near Universities. Usually the stylists are younger, maybe did hair abroad, and aren't afraid to talk to a foreigner even if they don't speak English.
Once you find a place that does it how you like, stick with it. Try to get the same person each time so they remember you and your style.
On this Juno thing, I've heard others speak well of it. I don't foresee many more haircuts before I'm out of here, but I might be willing to give them a try. What's so great about them? |
