I've been here for six months, and so far we've had cable with three or four good English channels including BBC, which is great for current news. Well, one day all of the channels suddenly changed to OCN and Super action. And well I hate bad 80's movies so this sucks for me.

When I asked my director he said the the cable company changed and they couldn't receive the channels that I want anymore. Somehow I didn't believe him though.

When I asked a couple of my adult students (who speak English very well) they said that sounds a little strange. They say that you should be able to pay for whatever cable package you want.

So I'm wondering what the hell is up with that? Has anyone else tried to hook up a better cable package only to get denied, or has this never happened to anyone else? In which case, my director is a lying bastard!

Thanks.

In Seoul, at least, AFAIK each "ku" has at least one cable company that services residents of that district. Usually, instead of offering packages, they offer a set lineup of channels, which they arbitrarily change from time to time. There is some sort of regulation that limits the number of foreign broadcasters that can be carried on Korean cable.

Anyway, your cable company most likely has it's own website with a complete list of channels it offers. You could check for yourself whether you're getting the runaround or not.

I would have a Korean friend directly call the cable company and tell them to give you all the channels.
