From the NY Times,
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/10/world/10nobel.html

Does that discussion of whether he deserves it or not really matter? If anything, it might put a higher expectation on Obama to accomplish more in terms of world peace, but isn't that what we want anyways?

I think its VERY premature, when you look back at the list of who has won it previously and see some great names, Obama doesnt deserve to be in their company, not yet at least.

Apparently its been awarded on his intentions for the future, but since when has that been the basis of awards?

Sure, he deserves it. Along with Yasser Arafat.

How can you even judge if someone is deserving of an award that means absolutely nothing? It was given to a dictator who enslaved his own people (Arafat). The award has just become a prize that is given to whoever leftists feel is their hero of the day.

Here's a good take on it:

http://isteve.blogspot.com/2009/10/affirmative-action-nobel.html
Quote:
The Affirmative Action Nobel

From Reuters, not The Onion:
Quote:
U.S. President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on
Friday for giving the world "hope for a better future" and
striving for nuclear disarmament.

The hilarious career of Barack Obama continues to demonstrate how
much white people long to give money, fame, and power to a black guy
who meets minimum standards of presentability, regardless of his lack
of accomplishments.

That is infantile. Rolling Eyes

I think he was awarded it for the simple reason that he is not George W. Bush. It's not much of an achievement, not being someone else, but I think that Obama has carried it off quite well.

How about this... the nomination deadline is February 1st. 11 days after his inauguration.

That's exactly what I was going to say.
