A "friend's" PS computer, which downloads torrents was flagged by the Gyung-gi Ed Office. Seems they either thought it was hacked by someone in the Ukraine or the teacher was visiting Ukrainian sites a lot. The tech came in to analyze the computer (for over an hour), found old histories which logged onto torrent sites, and a bunch of kids movies, all of which are for class. Teacher warned by said tech not to download any movies or music and to remove all programs that do. Tech communicated that he may have to re-visit next week to "re-format" the computer at some office to remove any personal files on the computer and warned the teachers "not to download anything FOR AWHILE."
Have no idea what the Ukraine and U-torrent have to do with each other, nor what further action will be taken when the Ed office is informed. The tech informed the teacher that any downloading should take place at the teacher's home (then stored on PS computer), although it was explained that the school has movie classes every week but movies are not provided.
(On a side note) I am sure someone might say that the teacher should complain that the school provide the movies. However, if the boat is rocked, it is believed there will be no more movie days and a lot more teaching instead.
Not a computer geek, but you are being watched at the PS. They might not know what you are doing, but they can come and see why a lot of info is being passed to and from your computer.

If you d/l on a work machine, you deserve to get caught, for a number of reasons.

No pity.

I have two computers at work. One is my d/l computer. It's been running 24/7 for about 5 years. Like Koreans could say anything about doing something illegal...lol.

Indeed.

It is amazing someone would not get that. The school's computer is not the property of the Teacher using it. DL from home, buy some memory sticks and bring movies to school...then transfer them to the school PC...pretty simple stuff really.

The school has every right to monitor how ITS computers are being used....

Not to mention that the school's network administrator is also responsible for illegal activity on the network if he doesn't take measures to address misuse of said network.

Is it now totally unsafe and stupid to use non-private torrents?

I can't log onto torrent sites at work as they are all blocked. I don't worry about accessing sites from my PC at school as I use my own laptop and won't be handing that over to anyone to look at. I would suggest doing nothing like downloading music and videos at work, just to be safer than sorry. Do it at home.
