Is anyone selling or able to recommend books on this subject?
I see many hanja characters here in Korea and am interested in finding out what they mean.
Any advice for learning the characters? (I am finding it frustratingly difficult). |

Do you know what a radical is? It's the main part of the whole chinese character. For example, there are two squares they use. Either they put stuff in one square, or they spell with it like the circle in hangul which comes off as "ng".

I bought a book called Learn Hanja the Fun Way, by Lee Young Hee. It has a little over 500 characters. For each character it gives you the meaning(s) in Korean and English, the pronunciation in Korean, a few example Korean words which use the character, the stroke order and a little explanation to help you remember it.
I got it for 14,000 won at Kyobo. It was in the Korean language section of the foreign book section. It's orange and white on the cover and black, white and orange on the spine.
Good luck with learning Hanja. It's a lot of work, but it's interesting and useful. It will help increase your Korean vocabulary and will be somewhat of an advantage in studying Chinese or Japanese |
