| I read a few months back about people teaching English in jails and prisons. I want to volunteer. I will do it for free. Does anyone have information on who I should contact about this? |

| You only have so my time and energy. One should learn to plant sees where they have a chance to grow. The idea of helping poor people, prisoners usually is like throwing your energy down a well. It does make for a good Sunday night movie. |

| you might want to look into the legalities of volunteering while you're on an E2 visa before anything else( I dont think you're aloud to volunteer unless you get immigration permission). Other than that, nice of you to think of others. Hope it works out. |

People on an E-2 visa can't volunteer to help people in trouble? I guess Korean Immigration is as stupid as it looks.
I hope I'm wrong. Anybody got tips? |

| I've contacted a few people who run voluntary organisations about the legalities and found that volunteering on an E2 is apparently legal. From what I can gather you do not have to inform immigration. I'm not sure about prisons but if you might be interested in volunteering in orphanages or such like then feel free to PM me and I'll point you in the direction of a couple of people you can talk to. |

What?
As for the legality issue, it wouldn't surprise me if it's illegal but have you ever heard of anyone being prosecuted for doing volunteer work? Seems like the golden rule would apply here. |

Is the concept that most prisoners are a waste of time too deep. When you are teaching I hope you don't waste too much time with the students that are slow. Do you invest money in troubled companies? Should you invest you time into people that won't really grow that much from your teaching.

Since when have I said I want to teach English to prisoners? I'm just saying I have nothing against other people doing it. And why would you? Even people who have done bad stuff have a right to a better life and a second chance. Maybe if they had more education, they wouldn't be in prison in the first place. |

Actually, it wasn't you specifically. I said, "If ___ is your calling", it was a general comment for anyone like, "If you won a million dollars, what would you do?"
