Jsut buy the Korean AC plug. In fact, I bought a universal Wii AC adapter. I got it at the Electronics Tower near Nambu Terminal, but I'm sure you can buy them at Technomart/Yongsan. It is compatible for 100-240 volts. The plug itself is the US form factor, but a simple Korean adapter made it work. Spent 21,000w (20,000 for cable, 1,000w for the US->korea adapter). Sure beats buying a Step-converter.

WHy does it beat a step down converter? I bought one in Yongsan for 10,000won and it's working fine with a N.American Wii.

1. Step up converters are usually bulky and heavy. Also, many of them do have a fan that makes noise.

2. The adapter can work here, Us/Canada, Australia, in Europe, anywhere.

3. 1 less things to carry around.

4. Step-up converters can burnout.

If you have a step-up transformer and you have no problems with it, then good for you. I was just thinking that it beats a step up transformer in size, space, and convenience. Which, in my opinion, is worth the extra cost. I'm pretty sure the 110-240 volt Adapter can be bought for less than 20,000w. I was just in a hurry to get home and get my Wii hooked up and running, so I didn't haggle the guy.

Well, cool i guess. Whatever floats your boat if you want uniform equipment. But, is still don't get how it's 'better' than a Step DOWN converter.

1. The step down converters in the Yongsan games building are small (10cm x 5cm x 5). They are sold specifically for console game sets. They have no fans, and make no noise.

2. They will be UNEEDED in Canada and the US (the Wii is N.American), but will work in Europe, Autrailia, NewZealand.

3. You have to carry around your adapter anyway.

4. They don't burn out unless pushed to their max capacity (ie. hairdriers).

Hell, I run an xbox 360 on a step-down converter. That's gotta be equivalent to a couple of hairdryers...

Your right, Step down converter, what was I thinking.

I just prefer having a single power adapter from the Wii into the Wall, without a converter as the middle man.

Step-down converter
220 Volt AC -> 110 Volt AC -> 12V DC

Versus

110-220 Adapter
220 Volt -> 12V DC

BTW, I did find these adapters at Yongsan for 10,000w.

I guess the step-down converters have the added utility that you can use it for other things as well.

It's clearly better if it's the only thing you'd need the step down converter for; having an entire extra piece of hardware just for your Wii doesn't make much sense.

If you have multiple gaming consoles, or other American electronics that require the step down converter on the other hand, the step down converter is superior.

Personally I use a step down converter because I have multiple things to plug in. If I just had a Wii, though, I'd do what pkang did too.
