Does anyone know if there's anywhere I could buy pet rats? |

Interesting question. Korean doesn't even have a word for rat (I think. Don't crucify me if I'm wrong, please). I really want a hedgehog. They are about 140,000 won at emart.
I have only seen one rat in Korea, in 2 years. However, I'm sure you can buy rats somewhere. |

I'm actually very curious about this as well. I had a few pet rats growing up, along with assorted other animals, dogs, a ferret, guinea pigs, etc., and other than the dogs, the rats were always excellent pets. |

Hi.
I don't believe you would get a pet rat here in Korea.
I cannot be certain of course but I have a dog here so I spend more time than most in the pet aisle in the supermarkets and pet stores (the few that exist). Most large supermarkets (Emart/home plus etc) sell rabbits, guinea pigs, dwarf hamsters (not syrian), lizards, turtles, hedgehogs and fish. I have never seen supplies for pets other than these anywhere (Cages, food, toys etc.)
In honesty even if rats were available to buy I would think carefully before buying one. Vets in Korea are likely to have little or no experience with rats. Rats live for approx 5 years and cannot be transported internationally when you leave. Rats also like to live in packs.
I hope I have been of some help.
Good luck. |

Definitely check the export/import restrictions before you even consider it. If you do decide on a rat, I'm sure there are plenty who need to be rescued. |

Just a little correction: most rats only live 2-3 years. 5 is pushing the record. And you're right, they do need to have at least one other (same-sex) buddy. |

Why would you pay money for a rat? Just leave your window open and some food out on the table, you'll have a rat overnight. |
