Funny thing happened at school today. My co-teacher came and saw me and said the students in one of the classes had told their parents they weren't taught something that was on the exam from my class. Showed him the PowerPoint slides and handout that all had the info they needed for the exam on it and assured him they would have heard the word 'brochure' (was an answer in the exam) more than once during the class. Not to mention it was written on the slides at least 3 times, I showed them a brochure in class, and we talked about how your write a travel brochure before they did the task in class.
Told him that the reason they probably missed it is because they're a bad class and don't listen. And that maybe they've just learned a valuable lesson about listening in class. Co-teachers agreed haha Really admired my other co-teachers stance on the issue, she told them in class they'd learned it and she didn't want to hear anything else about it.
We ended up having to email the PowerPoint file and handout to someone to show the parents of the kids who were complaining. Co-teacher 1 said, "When people get together on an issue they can make a loud noise". I said, "That's probably how they missed the info in the first place". Co-teacher laughed. We're a team! haha
Was very amused by it all, and enjoyed seeing that trying to 'save face' by laying blame on someone else runs deep in the kids. Hopefully they'll learn a lesson. If not, then we'll all be up in front of the parents in the next week or so trying to explain to them politely that their kids are noisy and a pain in the arse.
The question was worth 3 marks by the way  I can guarantee they didn't all get 97 without the marks.
It's something I'm glad I got to experience with 3 weeks to go though. |

Middle School students at a PS. These kids were 2nd Grade. |

| Send them out on a scavenger hunt to pick up brochures from local hotels, museums, travel agencies, train stations, etc. Ask the parents to accompany them, or bring them back from their own businesses, business trips, or other daily travels. |

Send them out on a scavenger hunt and then move the school before they come back would be a better option. 
The lesson's been done, there were just complaints that they hadn't learned something in class for the exam that they did. They just weren't listening.
That's a good idea for the next class though. |

| I had that with my kids once. They complained about the test, how we didn't talk about any of it. Handed out their homework, which they had not done, then showed them the answers to the homework AND the tests in the powerpoints we had done. You only have to do it once, they won't do it again. |

They weren't when I first came here. The main one has relaxed a bit now though and we have had a couple of new co-teachers come in who are both relaxed also. The older ones are hopeless (I have 5, 2 younger, 1 in her late 30's and two that are about 50).
If things had started off like they are now we probably would have all had a better year. It's the advantage of doing things properly from the start that isn't always understood here (or in a number of places I'd imagine). |

Had this class today and they were still noisy so I said "Boys, when you're talking and I'm talking you don't hear a word I say. You missed something important for the exams, how do you think that happened?"
They were pretty good after that. |
