Hi everyone,

The Lemon's Guide, though awesome, has been here for awhile now.

We're sharing the article from our site - would you suggest any updates to it?

Thanks for your thoughts!!!

I've just updated the original post, which it badly needed. Korean economic circumstances and other changes rendered much of the original 2003 article obsolete.

I doubt anything I've written in the new version is news to anyone who frequents Yongsan (or this forum) very often, but hopefully the people who are new to the country continue to find value in it. Also, I'd be grateful if others who often visit Yongsan would suggest corrections if I've written something that strikes them as mistaken.

It seems kind of strange that it's ok to teach people where to buy pirate software, yet posting detailed information about privates is not allowed on the forum.

I just got a high end panasonic DMC-LX3 point and shoot/mini-dslr that usually is priced around W640,000- 690,000 for W590,000 at yongsan. It was a good deal.

I am shopping for a new laptop and found no solid deals in the electronics market, technomart, or the ipark Yongsan station. I know computers pretty well and know what price I should be paying, but never really tried to barter. I simply asked how much, they told me price, I kept looking. Was sort of surprised no one really acted like a salesman.

I found the tunnel software seller. I want to get English Vista, the guy said 30k which is a really solid deal. Does this come with an activation key, so it acts as a fully legit piece of software, or is it simply cracked software? Will I be able to get updates and whatnot with a vista that I buy off that guy?

For the laptop, I'm really not sure where I'm gonna get it. I wish I had bought one in the USA off newegg before I came. You can get twice the computer there for the same price.

A little off-topic but anyone have any experience buying a laptop online, and how did it work out? Off auction.com, omi, or something like that. I'm a little apprehensive to buy an expensive product as my first online purchase in Korean, and without being able to read the TOS, return policy, etc.

The copy of Vista will be OEM in the best scenario, a rip normally.

One must ask why you are considering buying Vista with Windows 7 around the corner. Just get a good copy from the networks and buy 7 when it arrives.

As for your laptop question, I haven't bought a laptop specifically, but many other electronic items: an oven, washing machine, rice cooker, MP3 player...all arrived fine. They took a few days to come, but we saved a bundle buying them online. A tradeoff I guess.

Here's a 2nd vote for Windows 7. You'll be able to legally use the beta until mid-year 2010. No need to mess with cracks and pirated copies. Runs great even on my modest little netbook.

A bit off topic, but this thread is kind of amazing. I realize electronics have been advancing really quickly, but just reading the first page is a bit dumbfounding. 140,000won for a 128Mb mp3 player six years ago. Today, you can get an 8gb mp4 player for around 80,000 won.

In another post, someone was asking if they could find a notebook with a cd burner for less than 1M. Now, dvdrw is standard on most entry level notebooks.

If this trend continues, maybe I'll be able to get a netbook with an I7 processor for 300k in a couple of years.

Fantastic forum.

I thought I would post my experience with TechnoMart.
I went there in the beginning of September to buy a DSLR.

Did some pricing, got a great deal. My only bad was that I wanted the package deal that came with the sub-standard 18-55mm lens. If I just got the body I would've paid even less.

Anyway, I got a good deal. A few weeks later, my friend and I went back to get another lens for her camera. She got what we thought was a good price too, but later that day, we went to the Canon shop in Gangnam and the same lens was 100 000 cheaper. BUT the camera was 200 000 MORE.

Just goes to show.

Two things:
KNOW the prices.
Shop around.

This is a great thread. Keep it alive.

PS, can anyone recommend a place that stocks a variety of E-book readers?

Hi Lemon,

I'm really a dummy as for as PCs are concerned but I wanna get something to use at home. Just to surf the net and store photos and do a little work as well. I would also like to buy a Samsung SCX 4200 Printer/Scanner/Copier....or something of that sort...
What do you think would be the cheapest I can get? Second-hand is fine by me but it has to look nice n neat...about 2GB or if getting a memory chip would be better thats fine, in that case how much memory should I be looking for? Oh and P4 possibly...I really dont know what I'm talking about when it comes to specs so I need some advice....pleeeeeeeease.... Wink ....
