In these trying economic times, I really thank God for Korean racism.
I'm glad Koreans despise Indians and people from Southeast Asia.
Why?
I don't want them taking my job and driving down wages.
Down deep, I'm sure a lot of you must agree.
So let's sum up this post.
Racism bad!
Korean racism good! |

You have NO moral fabric. You support racism (i.e. prejudice plus power). |

Your post would have merit if solid logic existed in the powers that be. |

People from the 3rd world have been taking jobs from Westerners for a lot of years now.
That's why our countries have no manufactoring base.
Yes, I'm afraid of 3rd worlders taking my job. |

Obviously, we don't complain about racism when it benefits us.
Most of us in Korea would say "Oh I'm not racist", but we work for and support the 100% racist hiring policies of Mr. Kim. And we would fight tooth and nail if some lowly Indian or Phillipino were to take away our precious $14/hour job.
But we stamp our feet and puff out our chests if we can't get into the local booking club crying out, "RACISM!"
Funny isn't it? |

Actually I've never considered that racism. In fact I would be overy happy if certain establishments denied entry to particular groups of people back in my own country, even if I were one of the ones being excluded. If one bar wouldn't let me in becasue it was a country bar and I was dressed like a Coolio gang banger then thats fine. I'll just find another bar that caters to my social group. I think there would be less trouble that way. Korean booking clubs are of no benefit to westerners so honestly we really have no reason to be there. You can still gain access to them provided you are accompanied by a Korean. |

Isn't inner International English (that spoken in N. America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa) the standard?
Seriously, I would not be able to realistically understand many people speaking SEA English. And often times, SEA English is literally a direct translation from one language to English.
BUT! Indian Americans speak North American English.
Racism bad!
Korean racism also bad!
I think the passport rule is ridiculous, though. Some of the best English speakers I knew came from Singapore and Malaysia. |

Speak for yourself.
I am all for Indians, Filipinos, or anyone else who is reasonably fluent in English while having the necessary educational qualifications, being allowed to teach English in Korea. By the way, I actually have an Indian friend who does teach English legally part time at a hagwon due to his F2 visa status.
As for racist booking clubs, I have two comments. First, why would I want to pay money to have a girl sit with me when odds are that we are not going to be able to have a meaningful conversation? Who knows? Perhaps, I will change my mind if I am still single and my Korean ability has become fairly good. Second, why would I want to go somewhere where I am not wanted? |
