Whole wheat artisan bread.

If you're gonna be visiting Japan any time soon, don't forget to pass up on the bakeries. Virtually any bakery there will have absolutely amazing breads--might be harder to find whole wheat artisan bread, but it would probably be some of the best bread you've ever eaten. They've really mastered baking in Japan. OISHIIIIIIII.

Blackjack, you can get vegemite in Itaewon, at Tony's Aussie theme pub, or at the Indian supermarket on Hooker Hill. To the poster who said red bull, you can get it there too!
I want a decent coffee, and good bread. Sorry, but that Paris Baguette stuff is not good bread...

REAL Chinese food. Not the stuff that Koreans pawn off as Chinese food (even to get authentic jajiang myun, one should go to China to try it).

I don't miss anything else because I could easily get it at a shopette or the commissary.

Well, REAL Chinese food is a bit ambiguous because many of the ingredients Chinese people use to cook today was imported from other countries a few hundred years ago.

But yeah, jajiang MIEN in China is soooo good. Especially if you get it at one of those Muslim restaurants that are all over the place (people wearing distinctive white caps--almost like In-N-Out hats--and the menus are almost all the same).

Exactly--the Chinese have a very broad palette and have been exchanging culinary ingredients with the rest of the world for many centuries, thus you can find almost any kind of meat, vegetable, spice, or herb in "real" Chinese food. They cook with cumin, cilantro, basil, anise, fennel, clove, cinnamon, you name it! (Unlike a certain other East Asian country... *ahem*)

And yes, Chinese zhajiangmian is nothing like the Korean version (it is NOT black and does NOT have onions in it!), and it is SO delicious, especially if you get it with the wide hand-shaven noodles. That was my favorite thing to have for lunch in China.

Hot damn! I've probably eaten hundreds of bowls of that w/o any less enjoyment than the first. China's not my home, but I wouldn't mind having that in Korea.

great topic by the way-but im back in the states and loving the food.

In korea for a few years it was wendy's, taco bell, crusty bread.

But in the states Im jonsin for some dok bops and galbi-granted, I cant get it here but its 11 or 12 bucks so I cant make myself walk in, I stand outside and wish I could force myself to pay through the nose so subpar korean food. This is the very reason americans, like myself miss taco bell and wendys so much. Not thats its great or we ate too much of it but because of the wait for it

DOLLAR MENU!
