That's interesting, because in my family we believed that the exact opposite is true. Drinking a lot of water during the meal is better for your digestion. |

From the Mayo Clinic:

We were never allowed to belch at the table. Dinner was over for us if that happened. And no singing at the table either. |

1. Start using utensils from the outside and move in.
2. Drinks will be on your right, bread plate on your
left.
3. Once you pick up your cutlery, it never touches
the table top again.
4. When eating soup, spoon away from you and leave
the spoon on the plate when finished.
5. Always pass the salt and pepper shakers together
6. Pass food to the right
7. Put butter on your bread plate, not directly on the
roll.
8. Place napkin to the right of your plate when
finished, place on chair if you are returning.
9. Cut only enough food for the next bite.
10.Leave an attractive plate, with your silverware in
the 4:20 position. |

Proustme, I believe that is a uniquely Aussie thing. I say that because my mother-in-law was Aussie, and that is what she thought. She had no plan for what people would drink with their meals.
My mom was big on "Don't lick your fingers". That was tough cuz we were Southern (U.S.) and had our fair share of fried chicken. |

| How about the dinner scene from 'The Nutty Professor' with Eddy Murphy? Now THAT would drive home a point or two. |
